Does anyone know where WCP lives? If so call the village elders and tell them we've found their idiot.

London mate. I know you love ignoring history, hence you forget that Brighton get bigger crowds than saints despite being in lower divisions, but why you want to ignore Charlie Webb and his great achievement of winning the Charity Shield is my friend, an indication of your mindset. Its one major trophy versus no major trophies.. and the future looks like it belongs to the Albion over the palace as well

I'm with WCP on this. It was a major trophy and we won it. They ain't won nothing other than the Simod Cup. What relevance does the year we won it have? Does football history only start in the 50s? 60s? When Sky appeared? It's part of our history and we should be as proud of that as we of reaching the FA Cup Final in 83.

I'm with WCP on this too. Those who disagree don't seem to know much about the historical significance.

At the time the Charity Shield was contested between the winners of the amateur Southern League and the professional Football League (comprised only of clubs from the North and the Midlands). So in effect it was a play-off between the Northern and Southern champions. The winners of the Shield could then claim to be 'Champions of all England'. We won, causing a major shock by beating Aston Villa.

So not only did we win the Shield, but by doing so we could also claim to be overall English Champions.

I wonder if anyone who disrespects this achievement can truly call themselves a Brighton fan.

IMHO I would say league titles are amongst major trophies?? And a play off final trophy?? So where does that stand us now?
