I struggle to believe this is right as according to lots of ITK Twitter accounts Caicedo is earning less than the price of a cup of tea every month and this is why he's DESPERATE to join Chelsea

Silly old bat
Couldn't NSC chip in and sponsor him anyway - assuming player sponsorship is still an actual thing and he's not already been bagged
No, that was stopped or rather put out of fans reach a few years ago.

Seem reasonable?
I also saw that this morning via SussexWorld.

Some old contract figures there I'd imagine

Even before the WC Alimac was a regular Argentinian international coming into his prime and I would be stunned if the contract he signed just before the WC didn't see him at or very near the top. And although Lewis may well be the Albion's greatest ever, I can't see him at the top. And please no 'matching highest earner clause crap'

Other than that, it could be reasonable or it could be complete and utter bollocks :lolol:

There's a few names on that list that I would expect to be receiving revised contracts if we're going to keep hold of them.

Caicedo, Mitoma both immediately stick out as needing improved offers if we're to keep them. Also Ferguson, if he continues to deliver will need to be put on a long term better paid contract. But I can understand waiting a while to do that with him after the Connolly failure.
Add Big Bob Sanchez to that list too.

Was it Turienzo who was once heard loudly bitching in the Withdean dressing room about only being paid £2,500 a week. Only for the rest of the dressing room to fall strangely silent...
One of our first forays into the South American market. Glad our scouting has improved past "Some bloke who used to play for Juve recommended him so bang him on a two year deal"

Whilst £660 is probably underplaying it considerably (seeing as he made his debut in Ireland at 14), I wouldn't imagine he's on a lot of guaranteed wages. He will have a bunch of windfall payments coming in due to his appearances, goals, assists etc.

I had an old school who was an academy player at a PL club. He was on around £800 a week or something but was bought on for 5 mins of a PL game and earned around £10k for it.

Caicedo isn’t on much, that will need to change if we have any chance of keeping him

Dunk has just reduced the asking price for his house from £3.5m to £3m, so clearly he can afford to lose a few quid.

I'm holding out for a bit longer before putting a bid in, as it's on quite a busy road.

I think this is often the issue when players come through so quickly. While their 'value' is increasing week by week where do you pitch the negotiations ? I do think we have a very good team in place to deal with this, but when it moves so quickly (see Ferguson) it's always going to be hard

It's probably bollocks. The same source had Caicedo on £3,500 per week until recently and is the reason thousands of plastic Reds and Chelsea fans have now convinced themselves we're humiliating the lad and they only have to wave a replica shirt in his direction for him to be immediately tempted upcountry.

I've never known anyone, ever, to say "I'm starting a new job Monday, paying £500 quid a week" so why are footballers wages reported as what they earn per week? Surely they get paid monthly like most other people?

If these wages are sourced from Transfermkt then it's probably bollocks. Never understood why anyone quotes that website as if it's run by a pay roll department. They even put transfer values on there. Where do they come up with that figure? It's all guesswork, but people swear by it. Don't get it. It's the equivalent to a transfer rumours website but for wages.

I occasionally get to see actual football contracts submitted for income purposes for loans.

Put it this way, an ex SW London striker who had the desire for the north east was earning c£20k per week back in 2004. Said player had a goal bonus of 4K a goal which reduced to £50 if they were relegated to league 2.

More recently an average midfielder who was associated with a pottery club was on £35k a week with less than 10 appearances and wasn’t downgrading from a bigger club

I’d imagine Ferguson earned significantly more than £600 just in goal bonus rather than wage.
