One of them - take it on the chin and move on. The best footballing team doesn’t always win football matches - they did a job, which wasn’t pretty but they won. On we go.
The only really pertinent issue is that they did the job that everyone, from minute one, knew they were going to do. We were extremely naive. As much as we/I love DZ Ball, West Ham were waiting for us and we obliged 3 f***ing times

Lots of criticism against some really good players - Solly? What did he do wrong? As a team we were all generally poor in the first half and the dynamic of the game was largely determined by an early goal from WH as a direct result of poor defending at the back but also by a poor defensive MF. We miss Caceido thats for sure. That immediately made our style of football difficult to play with WH‘s already overloaded MF dropping deep to defend their lead.

We created some good chances in the second half but breaking down WH‘s block was never going to be easy and when we did get past them, our finishing was poor and lacked conviction - they defended better than us today and took advantage of us being too slow to get back behind the ball on their counter-attacks. We were simply outplayed where it mattered despite boasting a lion share of the possession and shots on goal.

It’s early days, the team still is undergoing tweaking and the transfer window is still open - let’s see how things are looking after a few more games - it’s far too early to be forming conclusions about who should not be starting for us this season IMO - ( we are not the only top team this weekend dropping unexpected points)

Not sure if I went to a different game to some on here but I thought we were bloody awful. Clueless, no ideas, no incisive passing and zero runners. Even Mitoma gave up trying to run in behind in the second half.

Yes they scored with virtually every shot, but we just passed it around and around and no-one tried anything different, the one time we did, we scored. Yes we huffed and puffed and their goalie pulled off some good saves, but it was all too ponderous, predictable and easy to defend.

Webster was particularly shite, Lallana made Gross look like a greyhound (was he always so slow?), our midfield was toothless and we allowed them to score on the break with some comedic defending.

Just like the Everton game last season, we 'go missing' in games and get punished.

Only plus is that we have 6 days left to get our midfield sorted and Colwills replacement.

And today we definitely were missing a defensive midfielder who could cover the fall backs and help out the centre halves

Solly played a lot better than Adringa did imo.

I also think the way we attacked reminded me of the way we used to attack under Potter , and like back then we could not score
Nah

The interplay upfront is much faster and slicker. But our defence is far worse now. Jury's out whether the extra attacking zest is good enough to override the lack of defensive solidity.

I’m with you but it’s so hard to prepare for 11 behind the ball. England have had to do it for years and it sometimes makes for frustrating matches.

I’m not too down after this as 1) I predicted it - we’ve not been great defensively in the first 2 games as our best players get stolen 2) It just had that Everton feel and the media etc we’re talking us up way too much.

Enjoy the ride, enjoy Europe but let’s get to that international break and bed some new lads in and go again. I’d have taken 6/9 points for sure - RDZ doesn’t do draws like Potter did.

Thought we played ok so many chances , Pedro not starting and Webster starting was my concern before the game , West Ham where physical that’s all not great at all on a different day would of won at a canter

Slow and ponderous, very Potter like at times.

We often lose those games
Very similar to Dyche's last 2 wins at the Amex.

De Zerbi ball will throw up results like today, but it's worth it over all.

Better second half on the tempo front - all over them for 10 mins then they broke and scored. 82% possession is a bit embarrassing for them - they did their plan but it just shows how good we are that a team like West Ham who have spent much more in their squad than us resort to those tactics. I thought we were ok and didn’t play badly - just got done like a kipper and didn’t have a good day / luck in front of goal.

Big wake up call, let’s be honest. With no CDM we can’t protect our centre backs and it was once again obvious Webster can’t play De Zerbi ball. @hans kraay fan club is going to love this but having admired Milner’s technique and reading of the game against Luton, both West Ham & Wolves have attacked his lack of pace. Newcastle will murder us down the right.

Selling Caicedo was inevitable once we got a bid that stupidly high and his agent was causing trouble. But selling him without a replacement is a real ricket. I don’t mean an equivalent player or we’d be spending £100 mill too but we have no one who can play at 6 and RDZ football needs that.

I agree . . . And what made it worse was certain players reverting to what looked like potterball, sideways, sideways, backwards, I lost count of the times Ferguson was deliberately offside, came back, blindside, made a diagonal run into space and nothing ever got dinked over the top. Infuriating.

Dunk and Webster Can't do that.

Moyes did a perfect job, and again, highlighted the container ships we have in central defence. Ones ok, but not two.

Yeah that's fair.
However we will always struggle when we concede first againat these tactics.

Fortunately De Zerbi ball gives us a much higher chance of scoring first
