More positives than negatives.

A sense of disappointment we didn’t beat Liverpool sums up how far we’ve come as a club.

Baleba excellent. Excited about his potential.

If you had offered me 6th place going into the October international break before the season started I would have snapped your hand off!

He’s also only 21 so I would say not worrying but more par for the course with the way we play.
Yes and no, i think. Mistakes are part and parcel of being a goalkeeper and being a young player for sure. A goalkeeper's mistakes are nearly always more costly by the nature of the position too so I don't want to come across as being overly critical of him.

However, two in two games is worrying from a first team perspective. We can't afford to keep giving soft goals away(which is obviously true for the rest of the team too). It puts us under a lot of pressure and stops us getting the points and rewards the rest of our play deserves.

If Ver Bruggen is not consistent enough yet then he needs time out of the team. I realise the counter of that is you can't get consistency without playing. In this case I don't think that's true, the kind of mistakes he's made are correctable with training.

It could of course just be a blip that looks worse because it's the start of his time with us so he doesn't have a large body of work to fall back on. I don't know which it is so will go with what the pro's decide. It just concerns me a little at the moment.

Pedro should have definitely put it away, but a mention for the free kick he won us in our half after chasing back over the length of the pitch.
How did Mac not get booked for the foul near the box and Baleba gets booked for a less of a foul just in our half?
he's got a medal!

Btw great to see Welbeck fitness holding up. Longest spell of availability he's had since he joined..with Lallana and Milner both injured and eating a large chunk of the wage bill no doubt at least one of the 30 somethings is earning his salt

Genuine question, but why ? (every time I think I understand the handball rule it turns out I don’t and yet when I was growing up it all seemed straightforward).
Because the ball deflected off his own leg onto the arm. That means it can’t be a penalty under the laws of the game.

We could have won, we could have lost but overall a fair result. On another day we could have been given that pen but its liverpool and what happened last week we would not have been given that today.

Boy doesn't that game sum up the extremes of our football. Made enough rank mistakes to lose two games of football yet we outclassed an in form Liverpool team in the first half. Delighted with a point - I want to see that Gross Baleba midfield stuck with now, feck rotation
