Birmingham city looking to consolidate their play off position and finish the regular season with momentum.
Super seagulls looking to finish season with pride and passion.
Thought I'd give this official match thread thing a go. My first and maybe my last, but at Least it's on the the day of match.
My prediction? Finish on a high at the Amex. 2-1 victory.
Peace out

The omens are looking good , a matchday thread started on the day of the match instead of 2 threads for the last game , one of which was virtually ignored after the game started.

Don't care about the game. Gonna sink a few (hic!) and toast a great season in our new stadium.
(...and predict the score correctly to go clear at the top of the score predictor table!)

Big Test

Vicente's last home game (I hope not)

Hughton's pressing style to counter the passing game

how-to-make-the-opposition-play-the-long-ball-game.jpg

“To make the opposition play the long ball game you have to press high up the pitch. When their goalkeeper has the ball your front two need to drop a little deeper to encourage him to play the ball out.

If he then plays the ball out to his centre-back you want to force them to play it long. You do this by getting everyone to press up at the same time: your forwards should press the opposing centre-backs, your wingers press the full-backs, your central midfielders press their opposing midfielders and your full-backs press their wingers.

The only two players leaving some space between themselves and their direct opponent are your two centre-backs, who can give the forwards a little bit of room.

If the forwards are the only two players with any space, it will encourage the defender, who has the ball, to knock it long as there’s no other pass available.

Ideally we would want to hold on to the ball until a pass ahead of Macca or Buckley is possible. Get the trickier Macca to drop off and leave Barnes on the bench and Vokes in the car park.

Dreamtime: pass out to the heavily marked Vicente who can lay it off to out strong box-to-box midfielder, the player we have not got.

El Abd + stepladder v Zigic

Maybe if we did zonal marking (or part zonal) from corners we would not have let in the first goal at Anfield? Characteristics is three in a line at the near post.

The trouble is the far post ball headed back across goal and the zonal stuff is all in pieces. Which is possibly where we have been going wrong lately ??? Or of the crosses/corners/free kicks are accurate man-to-man is best.

A day for Kazenga !!!!

As a former full-back himself, Birmingham City boss Chris Hughton believes that the key is to give yourself a chance, while working with your teammates to limit service to the wide-man.

And how good midfielders are critical in countering Birmingham (especially the central midfielder and his accomplice)

If Buckley does not start I will be shocked. Got to stretch their full backs by threatening to pass into space in front of Will Buckley. Might be a case for Agdestein instead of Barnes on the bench? Assulin (on the bench, of course).

BBC Sport - Brighton v Birmingham

Gus Poyet's skills (and the rest of the Albion team) as a tactician on the line. Will he outwit Chris Hughton?

The only time Gus Poyet was clearly outwitted was by Sven (arguable).

BBC Sport - Brighton v Birmingham

Banker 1-1 draw. Almost worth a bet.

I think Birmingham like Reading, Southampton and West Ham play two banks of four in a 4-4-2. When it is 4-4-2 v 4-4-2 it is boring.

Still Somewhere in Sussex!
I'll take a 2 - 1 win in the 90th+ minute with Buckley to score the winner. Let's finish the home season how we started :amex::albion2:
