Without doing my research (apologies) what players are on loan to other clubs and under what terms.

I know Cook is at Eastbourne Borough, Holroyd at Stevenage and Tunnicliffe at Bristol Rovers. Or am I wrong on that. Wright at Oxford what is his status?

We don't seem to be in any need to recall these players and they're getting match-fit too!!!

We sold/released Wright I think.

McNulty at Scunthorpe.

I think Oxford bought Wright.

McNulty at Scunthorpe on loan for six months

Jim is at Scunthorpe, recovering from a slight injury.

Loan is up in January and Scunthorpe have made a few noises about wanting to snap him up.

If Scunny are prepared to pay a sensible amount, then probably best all round? Jim is way too good a player to sit on a league one bench, yet Painter is So good and SO consistent, that its the best he could hope for here, right now.

Kevin Phillips.

Signed him in the summer transfer window, but loaned him back to Birmingham for one last season, before he semi-retires, and joins us on a pay as you play contract.

It's a shame our youth products still cannot go to a league 2 club on loan instead of non league.I presume Cook will be released in the summer then.

I said to his old man the other day, I'd like to see him try and overlap with LuaLua!

I would keep him. We are potentially only one injury away from having Taricco, Whing or Kishishev at left back.

I think a promotion team needs two strong players in every position.

By all means keep Jim out on loan, but 40 plus games is a lot for Painter to manage without suspensions or injury.

From the CLUB's pov Richie, that is the ideal scenario. What I meant was that I can't see Jimmy being happy with that.

Gonna say. He's in an impossible position; too good to be on our bench all season, not good enough to displace Painter.

Scunthorpe already paid a fee to loan him, so I suspect that may then come off any eventual transfer fee.

From the sounds of things though, a striker is more of a priority for The Iron and may eat up their January cash.

I know Jim loves it at Brighton.

I blame the lack of decent reserve team football. Players who are out for long spells never get the run of games they need and are forced to either sit on the bench - and be rusty when called upon - or head out on loan.

I don't think that's a gimme by any means

Jimmy Mac has had such a bad time with injuries both here and at Scunthorpe but when fit is absolute quality.
Sadly he is still not as good defensively as Painter so with youngsters like Cook and Matutu or potentially an older head in Tarrico to cover in emergency I fear we may lose him
