excellent , not too shabby pre-season despite what some may say

when we've experimented it hasn't pulled off (but that was to be expected) and using a full squad we've done alright

Chester City 0 Brighton & Hove Albion 4
New gaffer Bobby Williamson took charge of his first game at the Deva Stadium on Saturday afternoon and Brighton and Hove Albion proved more of a test for City's than any of there earlier pre-season opponents. With the new League Two season just seven days away, Williamson's new look City side showed heaps of promise ahead of the new campaign and they more than matched their visitors from League One for long spells of the game.

Ritchie Partridge gave the Blues new options down the wings and did well early on to force Michael Kuipers into the first save of the game when his cross from the right flank caught the wind forcing the Brighton keeper to collect the ball. City utilised the full length of the field playing an attractive brand of attacking football.

On the half hour mark Gavin Ward was called into action to deny Tommy Fraser from close range in a rare break out of their own half for the visitors. With a blustery wind to contend with, Brighton struggled on occasions to get out of their own half. Meanwhile City were more inventive in their play and created good chances but struggled to brake through a resilient Brighton rearguard. Partridge formed a strong bond with Kevin Ellison in the heart of the City midfield. The pair linked up well in the 35th minute to earn a corner with there never say die attitude when all looked lost. Jamie Hand also gave a distinguished performance delivering a number of fine balls into the area.

At the other end though the deadlock was broken, City's reliable back line was breached down the left channel and with acres of room Alex Revell was able to side foot the ball home under the despairing body of City keeper, Gavin Ward. Brighton's lead could have been doubled just moments later with Nicky Foster rounded Paul Butler only to Alex Revell slice his pass wide of the left post.

Bobby Williamson changed things around during the interval replacing Butler, Linwood and Holroyd with Phil Bolland, Nathan Lowndes and Ashley Westwood and almost immediately City signalled their intent to pull a goal back. Kuipers was called into action right from the restart blocking a long distance Kevin Ellison power driver. City's persistence almost paid off with Lowndes placing the Brighton keeper under pressure but the former Chester keeper cleared his line comfortably and Jamie Hand let a chance go begging when he found himself well placed in front of goal.

City came even close on the hour mark when Kevin Ellison nearly converted his free kick flighting a neat ball just wide of the top left hand corner of the Brighton goal. Partridge gave an inspired performance showing immense promise down the right flank. Just after Ellison's free kick, he created a fine chance out of next to nothing, lobbing a smart ball over to Murphy at the far post only to see the tall City forward head narrowly over the bar.

The visitors got a foothold back into the game as the City pressure subsided and it wasn't long before the visitors doubled their lead. In the 77th minute, Alex Revell appeared to be off side as he latched onto a through ball from Nicky Foster but with only keeper Ward to beat the pair clashed near the penalty spot allowing the Revell's ball to casually roll into the back of the net.

City tired as the game reached its conclusion and the Blues struggled to contain Brighton's threat. Nicky Foster, a prolific scorer around the lower leagues, capped a fine performance with a deserved goal. He charged past Simon Marples before firing the ball straight past Ward from an acute angle.

The Blues capitulated gifting Brighton a penalty with two minutes remaining. Dean Hammond converted the spot kick sending the ball to Ward's right to make it 4-0 to the visitors.

Despite the result, this was another good work out for the Blues that highlighted a new, vibrant and often entertaining brand of football. City now travel to face Northwich Victoria on Monday night before preparing to welcome Chesterfield for the eagerly anticipated start to Chester's League Two campaign.

When did Kuipers play for Chester? Thought it was Bristol Rovers, Albion, Hull and Boston only - with the last two on loan

Appears he was loaned to Chester by Brizzle but never played.

Apart from making me think that Chester should have won the game there are some atrocious spelling mistakes for a journalist to make in that report.

Albion proved more of a test for City's than any of there earlier pre-season opponents

City were more inventive in their play and created good chances but struggled to brake through

City came even close on the hour mark

All in all a very good result for the Albion
