Brighton bus drivers

Nope, gotta say that they are pretty rude. However I wouldn't want to drive a bus all day.

The traits you mention do seem to be in the majority.

There is the occasional gem I come across that will actually acknowledge that you are there!

As I get off the bus I tend to say 'thank you' to the driver, but most just ignore you.

In my experience, it's big city bus drivers that are the problem. In Glasgow and Edinburgh they are often rude, in Stirling, Glasgow, Alloa and other smaller places I tend to get the bus, they generally aren't. And I treat them all the same, so it isn't about that.

the majority I find are rude, unhelpful and obnoxious too. they are just failed cabbies with worse attitudes.

The one that annoys me the most is based just on looks, as he wears those weird ear rings that make holes in your ear lobes, he has big white plastic ones on that have made a hole so big, you could probably fit a can of coke through it. Makes him look like a junkie, though he is probably a nice enough fella, but probably scares a few passengers

Not in my experience. I've always been polite to bus drivers, but most nowadays just seem to be spoiling for an argument.

Why is it when the bus goes past Lewes Road bus garage there are always about 20 drivers hanging around smoking, half of which are women who look like theyve come fresh out of the Russian shot putt championships

I thought they only recruited lesbians now. The days of the heterosexual male bus driver in Brighton are surely numbered. Perhaps its righteous payback for the sexism of On the Buses.

It all went wrong when Brighton & Hove ousted the Corporation like Homo Sapiens saw off the Neanderthals or VHS saw off Betamax. The Corporation was far cooler but doomed.

I always think if you've got a job working with the public you can't be rude and ignorant and even more puzzling, how do they get these jobs??

I don't think it's a case of how you treat them, because I'm always polite until someone is rude to me first.

Having said that, I had a very nice bus driver on my way to work this morning. Very pleasant to me and even stopped on the seafront to let a man on running for the bus.

Live in London. The drivers up here have targets on: how many grannies and pregnant mums they can get to fall over,
how to drive pass that stop you rang for with plenty of time for them to stop,
how to brake sharpely stop for no reason,
to accelerate up to 100mph and then stop,
plus other crucial targets include:

not knowing nothing about other bus routes,
not knowing your stop,
how to ignore trouble makers but inform everyone else they cannot come on the bus plus being grumpy and rude is just essential,
how many times they can stop and talk to their mates, prefably whilst driving.

What gets me is that "let the bus pull out" sh1t, I don't mind letting the bus pull out if it looks in its mirror, indicates and pulls out in to traffic that has had a chance to let it pull out. Its when it thinks it you have ESP and just pulls out when you are half way down its side that I object!!

Also another wind up is when they allow their mates to turn right across them even though they are on green traffic lights - We have computer controlled lights to allow traffic through so we don't get tail backs!!. At Church road/ sackville road corner last week one let three of his mates through holding us all up and then had the gall to hoot and have a go at a car that thought he might let him through as well!



Also have you driven past Conway Street depot and seen all the staff cars parked inside the garage. They look like they are hidden in there so people can't see them. If Bus travel is so good and makes so much sense you would have thought the staff would use it rather than their cars?!?!

How does a bus driver get to work to start the early morning shift? Before buses and trains have started and vice - versa how do they get home if on lates?

Doesn't highway code "51" give bus drivers the right to close their eyes, stick out appropriate 2 finger turning right signal and pull out on everything less than an HGV or moving plant vehicle?.

I had a typical miserable bus driver moment last week. I was waiting on James Street with a load of guys from work and our bus pulled up behind another one at the stop. We didn't realise it was the bus we wanted straight away and by the time we had the bus had pulled out slightly (we are talking a metre at most). Obviously being a narrow one way street there was no way it was going to overtake the bus in front. The door on the bus was STILL OPEN so we got on and checked that it was going to the marina, the driver said yes but then informed us:

"sorry I'm not allowed to let you on 'cos I've pulled away now"

How ridiculous is that? He had pulled out about a metre, had no way of moving forward and the door was still open.

I didn't see what had happened initially but the next thing I saw when I turned round was the bus driver jumping off the bus, straight through one of the kids, smashed him against the bus shelter, and proceeded to kick him once he'd hit the deck.

Then hit and kick him again once he'd got up.

He probably didn't have correct change
