Don't salute, but I go through them and think....home.

Our family and friends traveling with us have always given the thumbs down when driving out of the city through the pylons and give the thumbs up when driving back into Brighton.
The wife's father though sometimes gets confused and does the ritual back to front!

just out of interest, does anyone else salute the stone pillars marking the boundary? I started about 20 years whenever I came back from away games and have never failed to adhere since, making my wife do it too, I also like to shout SEAGULLS too. OCD perhaps?

You are joking right? that is the weirdest thing...as i do exactly the same thing. I always salute when i go past them, if i dont i think it will be bad luck and a rubbish weekend.

At least that make two of us that are crazy!

Well that makes 3 of us then, i always salute the left one with my left hand and the right with my right hand....

I feel at home when i pass through them..

slightly off tangent but every time I travel west on the A27 I just have to yell 'sheepshaggers' at the top of my voice at the Hampshire sign. Has to be done! Always cheer at the West Sussex sign coming back the other way too.

Brighton factually.....
Always even if its in my head ! I sing GOSBTS when passing the welcome to West Sussex on M23, and when passing through the pylons I must admit I sing.......... Im from Sussex,Sussex, Sussex by the Sea,Sea,Sea.......... Seagulls  (which my wife thinks is pathetic  and my two year old daughter sings the Seagulllsssssssssssssss bit)

My grandad was a master stonemason who worked on the original inscriptions for the pillars, therefore I predominantly think of him every time I pass them

I tend to think i'm home when coming down the A23 at Handcross hill and being able to spot the Downs for the first time.

Love the pylons !!

My Grandfather used to farm Pangdean, my Dad as a toddler used to play on the seats that surround the west pylon

got a picture of my grandfather on the horse drawn milk-wagon on the A23 right by the pylons

Salute - tick
steering wheel tap - tick
Seeeeaaaaguuulllsss - tick
