Right, bought myself a racing BMX as a runabout as I wouldn't dream of chaining up my mountain bike either outside my flat or anywhere else in town. Having been watching the Olympics I now fancy a go on a racing track - looks like a wicked laugh and hopefully the mountain bike skills might transfer.

Anyone know what the state of the track up nr Whitehawk is, and if its usable what the deal is with it (i.e. is it run by anyone, locked at certain times etc)? I'm aware that it was built for a championship years ago so no idea if its maintained. Also know that theres a load of pikeys up there now - have they completely overrun it?

If anyone has any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Feared that might be the case. Hopefully they are not on the actual track itself, or will shortly be moved on.

Seems ridiculous amongst this 2012/"Beijing success" hysteria that we would allow such a thing to happen to a potential breeding ground for one of the most youth-friendly Olympic sports, but hey ho.

Well, I would double check it to be sure. I could have got it wrong or Argus could be scaremongering. I think there are guys that meet up on the seafront between the piers most night with their bikes. You could infiltrate them like Fast & Furious or Point Break.

Horam
the other half is from near there, i went up there a few years ago, and it was there, its a shame that a decent track was built and used for soemthing then left to fall to pieces

good on you my man, unfortunatly the BMX track in WhiteHawk once used as a World Cup venue is being readied for a Travllers site, the track at Brugess Hill last time I visited was so out of repair was not worth it ...

what are you after, theres lots of decent BMX 'venues' around mostly jump sites let us know !!!
