Absolutely. Most people who voted for Brexit can’t even give a coherent argument why they did.

Essentially brainwashed by Cameron, Farage and his cronies. “We don’t want the EU red tape?”, “we don’t want to be a part of Europe!”, “the NHS will save millions!”, and usually, “something something about immigration”.

I voted Remain, but that's pretty reductionist and demeaning to 52% of the voters, don't you think? And you don't reckon many a Remain voter was brainwashed with "better together" and "leavers are robbing our kids of their future", when in reality very few Brits (especially low-income workers) would ever be in a position to taste the benefits of EU membership, such as the ability to work in Europe (and I count myself as one who has, having lived and worked in Germany for a time)?

It's good to know that all those who voted for Brexit because they were totally not xenophobic and just wanted to remove red tape and give money to the NHS have been rewarded with additional red tape that will cost the country approximately £7 billion.

That went well.

Britain can now get these separate trade deals with the booming Asia market and developing Africa ones. Its all good in the long term.

I think most of the working and underclasses had been benefiting from EU standards and rights for years . . . . they pretty much made the unions redundant by legislating for safety, standards and rights in the workplace as a normal part of life. the working classes were quite happy taking their cheap holidays in the sun . . . . be interesting to see how many can afford to in 2 years when they're allowed to again.

If anyone thinks that's going to get better any time soon more fool them ( I don't suppose you do )

We need to see the detail first.

Superficially, we are told :

1. No quotas, no tariffs; Good news
2. No ECJ 'interference'; Fair enough
3. Fishing rights sorted; Not in the way that was presented in a no compromise form over the months
4. Erasmus scheme ceases to be replaced by UK's Turing Scheme (worldwide); Awaiting the details, but Erasmus was a superb project
5. Points Based Immigration Scheme + Settled Status are changes to People issues (but we knew that b4); We know this will need tuning as some farmers will confirm.
6. Heaps of Customs paperwork on goods in/out of UK (ok delayed 6 mths on non-controlled goods into the UK); Bad news
7. Broadly follow EU standards on goods or else tariffs will follow; Not in the EU, but still bound by many of its regulations. Can't interpret this any other way.
8. Services : limited equivalence? Need to see the deal first; I think the City will be sweating on this one.

So 5 & 6 are (depending on your viewpoint) negative and costly; 8 - let's see the detail.

Anything else anyone has picked up on?

What you put forward is pretty much how many expected it to turn out. The devil is, of course, in the details. I may get a copy for bed time reading in January.

End of freedom of movement is gut-wrenching. Already caused me untold amount of stress and out my relationship at risk attempting to make decisions with Brexit and COVID. But yeah ‘sovereignty’ and 25% of fish. Well done folks

Britain was a 'democracy' run through Parliament that institution was smashed when it was decided to have an advisory vote on leaving the EU and then make it policy. Parliament was further undermined when people accused MPs of being traitors for not adhering to the vote. MPs are elected to do what is best for the electorate not do what the electorate tell them. Old hat i know but you still have not understood the basic principles and why we WERE the envy of a lot of other countries.

This is exactly why a General Election was required. Because the result of the democratically-held referendum showed no sign of ever being enacted by MPs who thought they knew better than the people they were elected to represent

Well done Boris, step 2 on our path to rejoining has occurred. now SNP to win the elections in May (who would ever have thought Nicola Sturgeon would prove herself the best political leader in the Uk) Then we can vote on leaving England which no Tory can help by saying any of their ‘stronger together’ bollocks. Then we rejoin the EU and take the Euro (back to a hard currency). Won’t be much longer after that until Northern Ireland departs after that. So Boris and his ERG buddies can be proud of their break up of the UK all was it all part of little englander / bigotry / xenophobic / racist plan.

I feel so sorry for all you who lose a job next year over this

The vote to leave the UK was a once in a generation opportunity.

Didn't get the result you wanted the first time?

Try again.

All sounds abit EU.

It will be interesting to see what Scotland does now.

I see how they benefit from membership of the EU institutions and being part of a 450 million Single Market. I also see how they will gain influence being part of the EU whilst being attached to the EU's biggest trading partner too.

Now we are out the the EU the argument for staying part of the UK is that much weaker.

And if Scotland is curious about the pros and cons of leaving a fractious domestic union and joining the EU as an independent nation then maybe they should ask Croatia how it has gone for them since leaving the Serbia-dominated Yugoslavia and joining the EU.

We are unshackled . All along Germany wanted to rule us. Didn’t win two world wars & lose so many to be part of their brand plans.

Feeling, very, very happy today. Almost as good as BHA winning the Premier or a Cup. If only lightning would strike twice
