There could be some very interesting scenes in the commons straight after PMQ'S on Wednesday.
Will they just resign and walk out quietly or are they going to cause as much chaos as possible and make life very difficult for Johnson from the very start of his premiership.

64k question. This whole sad story alongside a Leader of Opposition who opposes his own party has been punctuated by episodes of hot air but precious little action. The main 'action' has been the establishment of a Party of 11 who quickly dispersed into 11 parties of 1, making the SDP for those who remember it look like a coordinated political force.

Fundamentally, trying to establish unity with a group of people whose sole basis of unity is being anti something makes cat herding look absurdly simple. It was the problem of the anti EU brigade before the bright idea of a referendum presented them a gift wrapped manual in how to be united for 5 minutes. Now the EU boot is on the other foot, can see no semblance of unity of action, just several folk who will get boot anyway with BJ as PM posturing as to what they might do.

Not necessarily, under the FTPA, the Queen invites someone else to try to form a government - this may well be May but it doesn't have to be. I see Starmer has now been added to the list of possible PMs of national unity.

It's also worth pointing out that if there is a VONC, the same conditions apply - someone else is invited to form a government. It used to be the case that there would automatically be an election but the FTPA stopped that.

We're really in uncharted waters here and I'm not sure that anyone really knows what's going to happen. In theory, Caroline Lucas could be elected interim PM, no-one really knows for sure

He will prob try and claim he was misquoted or his posts edited to show something different from what he said, when what he said was there in black and white all along. Usual story with him, says no deal is not possible then back tracks to say ok it is possible when its pointed out to him its the legal default when leaving if no leaving agreement is in place and both the EU and UK have been preparing for it, even though he says they are lying. Lists every option in various configurations and then says oh look I predicted that. Didn’t understand that a concluded trade deal is not part of the withdrawal deal. Surely protecting shipping against Iran acting illegally is important.
The US are talking about their own multinational maritime fleet as well, but we have said we don’t share the policy aims of “maximum pressure” toward Iran that the US administration favours so wont be joining their one.
Anyway, shouldn’t your post be in the Iran thread as it has nothing to do with Brexit.

Because we are trying to get out of Europe and we stand up and turn our backs and come out with childish snidey rants by Farage and Widdecombe towards the EU. That's why.
And why hasn't the news reported this agreement they are still saying we are trying to set it up.
Apparently Europe has no ships in that area right now anyway and help from the US was turned down as May did not want to upset Iran.

one thing you seem to be overlooking, the event that led to this was enforcement of the EU sanctions on Syria. after a brief complaint in principle from Spain, not alot heard from EU on the matter. do you not think they have an obligation to support us? should we release the Iranian tanker and let it on its way to resolve the situation with the UK flagged ship?

I have no idea why people seem outraged and surprised about this tanker business. Royal Marines boarded an Iranian tanker off Gib...what did people think the Iranians were going to do. This is a civilisation that has been around before we were running around in skins and a very proud nation who regard our society as beneath them. We have no idea how to get out of this. We are too rapped up in our own petty squabbles.

If we have no support from the EU( who can blame them really) then we should let it go and get the Swedish tanker back ...I assume it is only called a British tanker because it flies under a flag of convenience.

Very different circumstances, Canning was a political maverick who was loathed by many from his own party (he even fought a duel with the foreign secretary). He was renowned for his colourful turn of phrase, mocking many fellow politicians and railing against foreigners. Several ministers resigned rather than serve under him ... we can't expect to see a politician like that again.
