My parents lived through the second war. My dad, as nine year old, watched the first bombs drop on Brighton from his bedroom window in Toronto Terrace. My Mum and grandma lived next to a school and one day grandma had to pull as many kids as possible down the steps as they were coming out because a lone German bomber was running crazy over the town with a machine gun. Real Nazis, hell bent on extermination, trying invade our country.

It's one of the reasons why I find this glib use of the term, or inference to the term, 'Nazi' quite nauseating.

We are going a little too right wing for my liking. But I don't feel it reflects a tide of public support.

History is not repeating itself.

Your right. My mum was telling me how my grandparents where Mussolini supporters. As a supporter you got given free food and offered work. My mum remembers my grandmother wearing a uniform and saluting. My mum always remembers my grandfather and all the other men wearing black shirts. Being a small child at the time, and not understanding the full extent of things, my mum thought the salute was funny.

When I see the rubbish posted about facism and connecting it with leaving the EU today, I find it utterly ridiculous. I wish it would all stop. There is absolutely no comparison to went on all those years ago and Thank God we will never go down that road again.

It didn't start like that, which is the whole point. Gradualism, is insidious where it appears to be the right thing to do, but then you find yourself backed into an alley with no way out.
Farage is already saying anyone anti Brexit in the Civil Service & military should lose their jobs. That's only taken three years.

Does your finding it ridiculous extend to the leave side of things on this too - Farage calling Westminster MP's Quislings, comparing The Withdrawal Agreement to The Treaty of Versailles, Mark Francois saying his Dad was in Normandy at D-Day and didn't stand for bullying by Germans and neither will he, for example? (I think Mark Francois himself was in the army too, but he doesn't like to talk about it.)

Bloody Worthing!
Hear a rumour (on Sky) that Amber Rudd would serve in a Johnson government. Previously it's thought that she would join the likes of Hammond to de-rail the Johnson steam train. Another case of personal ambition trumping principles perhaps?

I read that yesterday too. She had also said this in various media interviews previously as well, but she once told me to my face - assured me- there would not be a no deal Brexit. If that duplicitous tax dodger told me it was Friday today, I wouldn't believe her.

There are many comparisons, however I do not believe we are headed towards a UK that seeks to extend it's borders into the rest of Europe, I do not believe that we are headed towards extermination camps either, but I don't think many Germans were expecting that in 1933 either. We do need to keep an eye on it, and never think it can't happen again, because that is when it will.

Mark Francois has been in the TA not full time, but likes to think he saved the UK single handed.

I wrongly thought she was OK, you were right about her all the way along. Would lose her seat if an election...

I think the word Crypto fascist is a better to describe on antics of some on the right of British politics these days. Who knows what the future will bring though?

Yes, I am sure that pre-war Italians thought Il Duce's strutting was funny, just as pre-war Germans thought that A Hitler was just a bloke that sorted out past national injustices. But isn't that the point? Your grandparents wasn't wicked and nor were the parents of German friends I have. Whilst we will surely never end up with Boris dressing up as Hermann Goering (the mind boggles) huge numbers of our fellow citizens now lazily buy into the cheapskate rhetoric of Farage and his friends. When a leading figure in one of Britain's most successful pressure groups threatens that when Boris Johnson gets the top job 'we will drain the swamp, ridding the civil service of types like Kim Darroch' and hardly anyone bothers to pull him up then our country is being pointed in an unpleasant direction...

We should all understand that, and people with your heritage should understand it more than most.

In every country. The same thing happens in the UK with white British, in Germany with white Germans, etc etc
Peado's are paedo's, to identify them by race is ridiculous. How many kids in countries have been raped by priests. How many times have we heard of rich white people clubbing together and raping. I dont see identifying by race or culture relevent tbh. Theres problems in all countries.
EDL for example has a history of child grooming and rape. Not one or two. I personally think they should go to jail for life, regardless of their religion or culture. The bs with Robinson is, well bs, his supporters seem to fantisize that its him revealing the crimes, when in fact, it really isnt. He has never revealed anything that wasnt already in the public domain. To say that the trial he almost screwed up wasnt in the public domain is a bit silly. How did that halfwit know about it? You mention India and Pakizt3. You most likely learned about it from? The main stream media.
He is a shitstirrer for profit, plain and simple.
A lot of people have some bee in their bonnet about what the MSN broadcasts. It broadcasts general issues, and doesnt panda to any specific idealogy. Left or right despite what people imagine.
Anyway, as im pissed, im going to bed

Thanks for giving it the Green light Dave :dunce:

So, only when we are being strafed by enemy machine guns can we dare to say these chaps resembles the Nazis somewhat!
If you'd asked a German in 1933 if they thought their country would be responsible for the extermination of 6 million Jews in concentration camps I'm guessing they'd think you were crazy.
I'm not saying that's going to happen again but with the evidence of human history, it's madness to say something calamitous won't.
Modern parallels with the past are very worrying at the moment, and in a lot of cases I think yes it is justified to say, these people are nazis. Wouldn't you call a few people knocking around in today's political landscape nazis?
