"And there is good reason for Japan cooperating to ensure this deal was secured in record time. It stands to get the lions share, 80%, of the total estimated Ā£15bn boost to trade for both countries."

It will be useful to see the full details of this deal. It seems, potentially, to be a little one-sided.

Now that's unfair. You know full well that Is it PotG?, just like his beloved leader Johnson, doesn't do details :lolol:

As part of the EU:
The UK economy is set to be given a Ā£5 billion a year boost after the EU and Japan committed to political agreement on a free trade deal as early as possible in 2016.

Brexit deal 2020:
Ā£1.5 billion per year better off compared to no trade agreement with Japan.

Did they manage to keep some tariffs on Nissan's and Toyota's coming from Japan to protect Sunderland and Derby?

well most of the cars made in UK are sold to the EU so my guess is they want to be Friends first and then put pressure on us to get a trade deal done with the EU, otherwise they will close it down and move to the eurozone

Best bit of Brexit news since the tea towel and the 50p piece. We will now have the same deal with Japan that we had when we were in the EU - I hope you're celebrating

I could, of course point out that the only bit of Brexit good news since is that we look like we've actually managed to maintain a tiny percentage of what we had in the EU anyway, but that would just be churlish :lolol:

You always seem to forget the Blue passports :bigwave:

that seems to be the Brexit holy grail....???

There is no holy grail, leaving or remaining. The EU is in a huge mess and so are we. Everyone should be in this shit together but they aren't. The larger institutions, corporations, multi-nationals, much of the public sector and many, many largely office based businesses have decided that they are going to stay at home, at least until some point in the New Year. F--k the SME's who depend on the office workers to support their businesses. Coffee shops, pubs, sandwich bars, ctn's, taxi drivers, hotels and numerous other outlets. Their selfishness is helping to close down many businesses amongst the most important sector in the UK. The wealth generating and highest employing sector. I'm alright Jack. I'm getting paid for doing very little, save for logging on every morning. Everyone thinks I am working from home but..........and as our economy goes to the dogs there are idiots on here arguing about a trade deal with Japan. FFS....try and lift the shackles of Brexit/Remain that bind you to this thread every waking hour and concentrate on what is going on right now. The difference between being in or out of the EU is but a minor bump in the road compared to the cliff edge we are standing on.

There are half a billion people in first world economies sitting 22 miles off the Kent coast, imposing trade sanctions on ourselves will be more than a minor bump in the road.

If this divorce ends really badly by trashing the WA we've sign and we then breach another treaty in Ireland we can say goodbye to a trade deal with the Americans too

And not just the Americans, every country which still regards itself as adhering to the international rules-based system. So basically pretty soon it'll be us hanging out with Somalia and North Korea.

No offence, but to suggest people working from home are just logging in is horseshit.

Only just heard about this story, but if this bill goes through think its time for EU to stop talking and go legal.

Bizarrely Johnson reckons the WA was rushed through, yes indeed by him!! Remember the 31/1/20 being put into law, remember hardly any scrutiny by parliament. He was so desperate to get Brexit done at any cost

Yes its a customs border if the Irish sea, it was that a customs union or break the GFA.

We're a laughing stock
