A lot of big European teams lost points this month because points gained at Euro 2008 (June 2008) fell off the 4-year sliding calculation.

By failing to qualify for Euro 2008, England didn't play in June 2008 and so didn't have any points to lose. Hence we have appeared to gain relative to others.

In FIFA rankings terms, Italy didn't beat England. It was a draw. Plus their shite performance (even worse than ours) in South Africa still counts against them.
