I wasn't aware that you represented all of british politics :lolol:

Yup, it's the revolution you speak of. Nibble's here to sort this country out. First thing's first, let's get the kettle on.

Wasn't Brand at one point pointing at Paxman's beard and giggling summat like " I loike yer beard I do mister, it proper suits yer"

Really? This is the voice of the start of a revolution? I've never heard so much blathering claptrap in all my born days. Grow up.

The alternative is obvious, but especially amongst the older generations it remains very controversial. In that interview he described it as something akin to "socialist egalitarian society" - but his role isn't to offer an alternative, but to create awareness about key problems

Which means what in practice?

Think Brands brief is to get people talking about this subject... ..NSC now on page 9...and a wealth of new friends created :)

Russell Brand came off like some Sociology student down the union after his first snakebite and black and he didn't run rings around Paxman, Paxman just sat and let him run off at the mouth in his affected and irritating baby voice. He's only saying this stuff to promote his current tour. He's an attention seeking addict and he'll be back ****ing prostitutes in LA before long. Thankfully.

Completely agree with this, and he always uses the ex junky card as a badge of honour in every interview to preach to others. He has got stage school written all over him.

He models himself on Fagin from in Oliver twist, he talks the talk but is just in it for personal gain, with an overwhelming desire for more.

Brand's brief is to get people talking about Brand not politics. To that end he has succeeded. It's an interesting subject. His political standpoint however is not in the least interesting. It's the dull, prescriptive, ultimately fruitless gibberings of a man who still believes love will resolve the world's problems.

Your revolution is over Sir. The bums lost, you hear me Brand? THE BUMS LOST!

Maybe I interpreted his interview differently... I think he said at the beginning, that its to get people talking about the subject.....clearly youre not a fan of his, im not particularly, but regardless of that, I find it difficult to argue with his points.
He says, he doesnt have a solution...but if people dont talk about it, then solutions dont appear.

I think you are either irrationally cynical, or a very bad judge of character.

It often surprises me the obscure places he pops up, I can tell you with absolute certainty his role in politics has nothing to do with personal gain.

What ROLE in politics? Let's get some perspective on this shall we. He appeared on newsnight to promote himself and try and half a laugh at Paxman's expense. People are talking of revolution. Yeah okay. Let's all just calm down shall we.

Think I'm burnt out on this subject, he's all over the place cos of ten minutes of childish wittering on telly. Give me a shout when the revolution's over, I'm off to the dogs.

wow, many people on here claiming the sandy hook official story was all above board, and siding with Paxman over Brand in that interview.

it's a big shame such ignorance exists.

He hasn't got a role in politics, he stated the obvious regarding what is bad with the world but said voting was wrong.

We could say that our choices in who we can vote for are limited, but that's a different argument. Most people who disagree with the choices of who to vote for would spoil their vote so at least it counts.

If we want a revolution we would still have to vote for it for one to be organised.

It always seems that those who have achieved a certain degree of material comfort in their lives, with a potential for a smug retirement in the pipe lines who really seem to get anxious when these questions get asked.

Culpability for the state the world/country/politics falls on their shoulders because they played the game knowing it was exactly that - a GAME where you end up screwing others by playing and perpetuating the GAME, and they played it without standing up and trying to resist the blatant unfairness of the system.

Not really, Sandy Hook leaves a lot to be desired and Robbie Parker's interview was very odd.

The biggest trouble with conspiracy theorists is that they believe every single one and do not dismiss any as being fanciful. That's where they fall over.

I don't see the connection with Sandy Hook and the Paxman Brand video.

Western democracy may not be perfect but it's a lot more fair than one mad guy with an army and a little red book dictating his will as he thinks of it.

It's becoming clear that you can't fix democracy with democracy while there is capitalism, especially when those who own the media have such specific political agendas. .

Have you ever heard of the BBC? I presume so? Not 'owned' by any political or corporate organisation and totally neutral. They annoy the tories and they annoy Labour. They employ such diverse voices as whinging lefty Paul Lewis, Spectator columnist John Simpson and Melanie Phillips' husband Joshua Rosenburg. You sound like one of the tin foil hatters.

So to reverse the question - how do advocates of the present democratic system believe our current problems can be resolved promptly (coz time is ticking) within the framework of our political infrastructure?

Or is everything alright with you Jack?

back when russell brand was properly funny, matt morgan used to rip the shit out of him if he attempted to discuss politics. he would have absolutely destroyed him after, if he had done this paxman interview over the phone on their radio show. now that would have been worth listening to.

he is still a smart and funny bloke when he wants to be but thats all just nonsense that interview.

Brand did. So did the other poster I quoted. "Socialist egalitarian society" is a cuddly word for communism. I quoted you because you mentioned blatant unfairness. A "socialist egalitarian society" would be a lot less fair IMO. You probably disagree.

To be fair - Brand was pushed to offer an alternative and how else can you do that other than using the labels or lexicon already established. If he said 'Don'tbesoselfishism' was the way forward would that sound better?

I agree that socialism has failed, but I like to think that we can still all agree that things aren't going well and fresh blood/ideas are very welcome?

Socialist egalitarian society.... so in essence he is saying that society should be capped in every sphere of human life, especially in those areas that may set one person as different to another?... is he saying that all the liberties and freedoms of choice are to be disbanded in favour of a central decision making entity that will somehow decide what a person is allowed to choose or aspire to? Who decides what the flat rate for wealth should be?..... This glib statement of three little words is simply a contradiction in any terms you care to apply.

Equality of Outcome supported by Socialism, the only accessible example I can think of to easily describe what that may feel like is to watch/read what Boris Pasternak described in the 'revolutionary' sequences of his most famous book ( and film)... Dr Zhivago.... low brow I know, but it delivers the message well enough.
