From the Argus website:

Editor of The Argus resigns
by Argus news team

Resigned: Simon Bradshaw Simon Bradshaw, editor of The Argus, has resigned.

Mr Bradshaw, 45, joined The Argus six years ago from the Daily Record in Glasgow.

He began his career on the Coventry Evening Telegraph and has worked for a number of regional newspapers, including the Bradford Telegraph and Argus, the Edinburgh Evening News and the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, where he was deputy editor.

Under Mr Bradshaw's editorship, The Argus has won a number of awards.

It was named Evening Newspaper of the Year in last year's prestigious Regional Press Awards and became Team of the Year in the same awards for its coverage of the West Pier fire.

Other awards include the Daily Newspaper of the Year title in the 1999 BT Southern Home Counties Press and Broadcast Awards.

Martyn Willis, managing director of Newsquest (Sussex) Ltd, which publishes The Argus, said: "I would like to thank Simon for his hard work, dedication and professionalism during the six years he has held this position and would like to wish him every success in the future."

Shame ... IMHO he was a good editor .. was also good at the Shropshire Star

Good luck Simon

This is a awful blown to the Argus. The previous editors were either ineffective or total [deleted in this new libel-sensitive age].

Congratulations to Simon for a brilliant six years - without doubt the most talented local newspaper journalist I've ever met. But he belongs on a bigger stage than the Argus.

Real end of an era.

Bit extreme to resign just six days before your team plays the Albion though, but he was always scrupulous about conflicts of interest :lolol:

Two threads - some tidying up by mods needed.

I heard he HAD to resign as his office was being demolished to make way for a development of 28 flats, seven of which will be affordable

Like ALL local/regional papers, the Argus has been a victim of falling circulation. I know they repositioned the title last year towards a younger audience. Perhaps he felt he has not achieved the impact he would have liked to have done?

I think he's done a pretty good job with the Argus. It's a damn sight better than it used to be.

I'm sure he'll go on to higher things.

I knew about The Argus before I knew more about the Albion than "Liamo manages them" - the school library had books on all the sections of the media, and the one on newspaper production covered the Argus, wibbled on on how big a paper it was in the area, etc. Looked like a right trashy tabloid

Has it actually gone downhill since?
