The markets have stopped flapping, but I think the only thing that's happening is a brief hiatus and folk making money on a few bargains. The market isn't the indicator at present.

lol, you mean it isnt an indicator that supports your point of view. the headline markets are always an indicator of investor/speculator sentiment, thats their purpose. they've stopped flapping because nothing has or is likely to change in the short term.

Boris is biding his time again.

He knows that whomever is elected is a dead man or woman walking because of the single market and immigration issue. He's hoping they'll take the bullet and he can ride in on a charger after that. What a Machiavellian character he is.

Agree. But he has made yet another mistake. No matter how unfavourable the terms of Brexit will be, the leader (likely to be May - I hope) will not have to resign. Unless labour have a serious coffee smelling moment and sort themselves out, May will win in 2020. Boris is finished.

If we on here can see what a double dealin machiavellian oaf he has been, so will everyone. Yes of course he will continue to have noisy supporters (as will Farrage) but they won't win him a vote.

As for Brexit terms, I can see May having to accept controls on immigration for loss of access to the 'free market'. We all knew that this is what Brexit means (well, those of us awake knew). She knows that. Perhaps the EU folk will take pity on us, recignise May as a good egg, and help us out. I sincerely hope so.

Either way, we will get the Brexit and will have to make do. Perhaps we can make a big deal about the new freedom to control our borders. But that will be interesting. It will mean fixing the non EU 'tide' of immigration that we have always had the ability to control, but neither the will nore wherewithall to manage. That will be interesting to see . . . . especially given that I don't actually understand why the tory government have completely failed to deal with it. Arguably labour previously neither knew nor cared about it (arguably not) but the Tory government certainly knew and cared (it was part of their platform to get elected time after time). Does it mean that a massive change in how we police our borders is required? Anyway, this will be for post Brexit, I guess.

Somehow I feel slightly happier, now Boris has been defenestrated. Not actually happy, but happier.

Good, now he needs to get his support behind Andrea Leadsom.

Where are all those that said Boris only went with Leave to further his career by going for PM. Egg on face.

Not at all. He fully intended to run, but Cameron, has stymied that by resigning straight away. He has been checkmated and knows it. See post 29, and I can vouch for the fact that lawros left foot, did post it previously.

Don't be ridiculous. That is still exactly why he went with Leave. He's just been outmanoeuvred by Cameron and Gove, that's all.

as already posted, that comment that was doing the rounds seems spot on now.

Nice of the these politicians to play around with our country's future for their own political games eh?

My position too.

Let's put it this way: if Theresa May wins, they are on notice from me. If all the talk about uniting the country is genuine, and they stop clobbering those least able to afford it, especially the working poor and disabled people (I support limiting welfare at all and think it is necessary, but not in the way it has been done, and not while you are cutting higher rates of tax at the same time) I will stick with them. If not and/or one of the Leave supporting candidates wins, I am very likely to alter my vote. Unlike many on here, I am in a marginal constituency, though it would take a really strong Labour leader to have any likelihood of it changing. It only voted Labour while Tony Blair was Prime Minister (strongly in 1997 and 2001, only by 162 votes in 2005).

No chance. Leave won and Leave will be delivered by the current Conservative government. You can put the straws down now.

Well obviously it won't because the current Government will go when Cameron get's his P45 and it will be up to the new leader to form a Government and it 'may' be that one that triggers article 50,

So you completely rule out the new Prime Minister calling a general election before hitting the Brexit button? Time will tell whether that is confidence or arrogance.

I reckon Boris is going to stand as Labours next leader, he can change his principles, believes, politics to suit any occasion.

He renounced his conservative beliefs and masqueraded as a Social Democrat at Uni in order to become President of the Oxford Union.

Which is why the Labour party are desperate to get a new leader.

Boris doing a press conference now. Short and breezy, like someone assuring a kid they have just run over 'will be fine' before driving off at speed to meet up with the secretary for a bit of afternoon hanky panky out of sight of the missus. The utter shit.
