It's likely to be something 'orrible that probably won't be cleared by chucking a bit of borax or whatever down there. Unless you really fancy opening up drain covers and having a nosey I recommend DYNOROD. They have all the proper gear and do the JOB for a fixed and very reasonable price.

Yep - nothing a stiff brush, rubber gloves and some toxic chemicals can't sort.
As awful as it sounds - I sometimes have to empty congealed fat out of the u-bend of my drain but after at least it all smells rosey afterwrds.

One Shot drain cleaner is pretty good for that kind of thing which you will be able to get from hardware stores

bit creepy, the child comment.

a bit of sulphuric acid and a devil may care attitude to personal safety and you are sorted. open windows, dont let it touch metal, and its free running water once again.

Drain rods.

Had the same problem. Called out some plumbing company told me he will have to probably jet it and that it was going to cost bout £400. Fixed it at £300 then the **** cleared it in 20 mins with drain rods.

DYNOROD were less than £100, although was a few years ago. I was very impressed. They do have a national reputation to maintain unlike the cowboys with the drain rods.

Drain rods are fine if the blockage is in a fairly straight pipe run and there is access from an inspection chamber. If it's in a u-trap you will need a more flexible type of drain unblocker.I've had a bit of experience at unblocking drains, so if you want any help or advice PM me your phone no.
