Boring Friday poll - How often do you wear office clothing?

For the lads, I mean a suit or jacket and tie and formal trousers, for the ladies a dress, formal skirt or trouser suit. In my case, I only wear a suit if I am going to attend a meeting, which is not very often at my grade. Otherwise, it's the sports jacket, tie and formal trousers combi from Monday to Thursday, then casual on Friday - the Civil Service is much less formal these days and I could get away with wearing casual every day, unless I worked in a Minister's or senior official's Private Office, when it would be suit every day without question. What is the situation where you work, and on another point, are you allowed to wear shorts during the Summer? I've never found an organisation in this country where this is the case.

We don't have a strictly enforced dress code here, but when we relocated to Canary Wharf most people now wear suits (without ties) everyday.

Before that I was getting quite lazy and scruffy but I quite like donning the suit these days.

I've never been one for all this suit and tie bullshit. I've only ever worked in two offices where we were expected to wear a tie every day, and I simply refused to on the second occasion.

In my current office we can wear anything we like so long as it's not offensive.

Technically we're not supposed to wear shorts or sandals in Summer but if it's hot, everybody does and nobody seems to give a shit. I once came in barefoot after a pair of flip flops broke on the way in to work.

Wher eI work we wear what we want and that includes shorts etc in summer. The wonders of working in the IT industry hardly anyone wears suits.

It rather varies depending where and who I'm working for. For the last few months I've been wearing an HP T-Shirt and black jeans plus dark trainers. Before that the place had no dress code so jeans and T-shirts were the order of the day.

Next week who knows ? Maybe a collar and tie.

I work for an IT firm, so no dress-code, and yes we can wear shorts in the summer - for the Finnish chap who used to work here "summer" counted as most of the year!!

You know you raise an interesting point there. How come in hot weather, more often than not, women can quite happily wear short skirts and skimpy tops when so often men have to wear a tie and long, formal trousers ?

Bit of a double standard I think.

There is no dress code in my prestigious role as Domestic Engineer. Smeared weetabix, a little snot and baby vomit often adorn me and make it look like i have actually been doing some 'work'.

When teaching at Uni wear anything I want, but normally jeans and shirt.

If working from home normally wear the wife's underwear and little else.

At old job always had to wear a suit incase of a 'suprise visit' (never had a visit for the 18 months i was working there! )

Amex now are a little less formal, anything really goes except Football Shirts (Arsenal fans seem to bypass this rule ) or clothing which may cause offense
