As an officer in a Students' Union, I only wear formal clothes when I need to.

Normally that means when someone has copied an essay off the internet and got caught, or when I have meetings with the Vice-Chancellor or pro Vice-Chancellors.

Otherwise jeans and a smartish (ironed!) t-shirt.

These are commonly known in the trade as "mummy badges"

I found a 'mummy's badge' on my shoulder yesterday...

People seem quite put off by the idea that my sort of photographer (unlike wedding snappers who dress up like dog's dinners) has "proper" clothes so even changing out of pjs is a hugely formal gesture.

brighton, actually
last job 'expected' professional attire (shirt, tie, trousers for the men, though the ladies seemed to get away with anything.

ties only relaxed during the summer season, and i never bother wearing one since, which was not commented on at all, in view of the fact the office we were in was badly ventilated, and like a goldfish bowl when the afternoon sun hot the windows..

Yes, very strict dress code, has been relaxed more recently to allow short sleeve shirt (without tie) all year round, I prefer a long sleeved shirt and tie in winter and short sleeve in summer. Dress code for females is the same as for males, except they have the option to wear either skirt/trousers.
