Booing Barnes?!

I find it utterly embarrassing that we have fans who boo our own players. I hoped that somehow the likes of Barnes might not hear these idiots but the fact he has only compounds the misery of having to sit near one such moron who seems to like nothing more than slate his own team.

I 'oooh-ed', thinking we'd either score (great!) or the reaction of people would be something to behold (ranging from annoying or frustrating me to entertaining me.

But his "iffy penalty" record for prior to saturday was either 9 or 10 out of 14 (depending on if you consider following up and scoring as a scored penalty or not). That's a pretty decent record. Granted, two of his misses were his last two penalties, but overall, his record isn't that bad.

I didnt boo but i did let our "what the ****" when Barnes grabbed the ball for the penalty (as did many in the WSU), espcially with Lopez on the pitch who I assumed would have been the nominated penalty taker. I didnt hear any boos.

The MOTM is so unimportant in my book, if a player scores more than 1 goal then he gets it regardless. I have to say my MOTM was the big pole and I thought JFK and Ince had great games, but Barnes did IMHO the all important job of putting the ball in the net.

Yes, scoring more than you don't score is decent, especially when all are on target. Since saturday it is 10 or 11 out of 15. So, at least 2 out of 3 are scored.

Think of the team? Give over. Should he think of the team when a cross comes in, leaving it so that someone else can take a shot? Should he think of the team when our opponents sling a corner in, since it's the defender's job to defend? If Barnes is feeling confident, he has as much right as anyone else to take the penalty. Let the team decide, as they did on saturday whether to let him or not. Greer, Upson, Crofts all could have told him to leave it to Lopez (a man who isn't in much better form than Barnes at the moment, in fact I think even some of the "barnes haters" would rate lopez lower on recent form) if they felt it was best for the team. They did not.

If it is indeed 11 out of 15 that gives him a conversion rate of 73%, compared to the Premier League rate of 79%. So, as you say, not too shabby in the great scheme of penalties. Not everyone is Matt le Tissier or Ricky Lambert.

Decent ? Maybe. Not for me when we have a 100% player on the pitch. Move over Ricky, I will have this, I am feeling confident and have a 2 in 3 record.

OG hasn't a great deal of choice, wait until Dec/Jan when the others are back, probably get a clearer view then.
