Stockdale 6: Couple of regulation saves, kicking good in the main, confident on crosses
Bruno 5: Textbook Saltor. Couple of amazing flicks, couple of casual misplaced passes, couple of tackles perhaps more appropriate for the Karate Kid than on a football pitch
Bennett 7: Has been our best defender for a while now.
Greer 5: Silly yellow card, some shocking hoofs interspersed with a few decent blocks.
Dunk 4: Gave Clough far too much time and space for the goal, identical to a couple scored by Brum last week.
Calderon 5: A few times he appeared to be playing centre forward. Huffed and puffed but didn't contribute much.
Kayal 6: Solid and clearly a good player but didn't do much today.
Ince 6: Couple of great uses of the telescopes but still needs to do more with the ball once he has it.
Tex 6: Our main outlet for attacking. Always prepared to take on the opposition but not much support and ended up going down too many blind alleys.
Baldock 6: Had two good efforts both of which brought off saves from Amos. Tends to disappear at times.
CMS 4: Decent cross for Baldock's first chance, otherwise enthusiastic but ultimately ineffective scampering.

Subs

Stephens 5: Lanquid,
KLL 5: Didn't see enough of the ball to make a difference but always keen to take on defenders.
COG 5: Won a few in the air, but only given 8 minutes, which seemed nuts.

They sounded nothing special on the radio, but those ratings make them sound even worse.
So disappointing after the last two performances.

I thought those ratings made a few of them sound better than they did on the radio

Just back from the game

Stockdale - 6, not much for him to do tbh, distribution at times much to be desired
Bruno - 4, really didnt impress today, some shocking first touches and mislaid passes
Greer - 5 HOOF
Dunk - 5 Didnt really see the goal properly so cant comment on his role on that, didnt really do much 'wrong' but not alot right either
Bennett - 6, Impressive going forward and did well at the back aswell, hes come along way from the start of the season
Calderon - 5, not helped by the fact Stockdale punted the ball to him every goal kick when the man marking him was about half a foot taller than calderon, but didnt do much at all of note
Kayal - 6, first time ive seen him play (for brighton); didnt do much but solid looking lad
Ince - 5, some poor touches and passing, had a good chance on goal near the end which he just rocketed over the bar
Tex - 6, too physical a game for him today i thought, but also not given the support he needs
Baldock - 6, only player to have serious lookins at goal. Unlucky with his efforts
CMS - 4, i really like the guy, his workrate is second to done but he honestly does not bring anything else to the table.

Stephens - 5, did nowt
KLL - 5 barely touched the ball
O'grady - 5, Should of come on much earlier

If i had to give a MOM it would either be Bennett or Tex just because they seemed like the only 2 players who actually came out to play today, rest of the squad looked patently uninterested.

Poor performance against a poor Bolton team. One of the most mundane games of football ive ever seen.

Too reliant on ball to cms down channels, especially from stockdales kicks.
Did not deserve to lose. Had goal mouth scrabbles, draw at very least.
Wheater and mills(central pair very solid) blocked plenty today.
Second to the ball far too much, did not look hungry enough.
Bolton workman like, not much to offer, just exellence with their goal.
2 Points dropped as they were poor a shame with Derby Tues.
Imo need to break quicker, alittle too ponderous today.
They were lucky to come away with all 3 points.
A flat drive home back to brighon.

.

Hmmm.....can't disagree that he has improved under Hughton. However, personally, I think he remains one of the weak links. Good offensively, but constantly ball watches, positionally weak and most of the goals we concede are from the left hand side pitch/area. Yesterday, whilst Dunk could have done better, Bennett also needed to tuck in as well.

I thought it was you that wasn't so keen to apportion blame to the manager. Is it only the right starting XI if we win? The players play their part, surely?

I don't as a rule. Can only comment on the decisions he made

Yes, they should do but four successive blanks away from home suggests that blame can be apportioned in both directions. The manager is clearly setting up for 0-0 away and hoping to nick a goal. We are not the sort of side to ' nick ' goals. We aren't clever enough. We need a host of chances to convert one or two.
Next four home games aren't going to yield very much so the attitude away is going to make or break the season.

Have only seen the goal once but surely Stockdale should do better. The shot barely touched the net.
