I would imagine there's an element of brinksmanship about this. People have said Dougie can use this to negotiate his new deal, but so can CPFC - accepting a bid from Bolton is like saying "we don't care if bolton are offering you more, if they want you, they will have to pay us, so we get a chunk of money for letting you go, so if you want to choose them, go ahead, uprootyour family, start a club rebuild from the beginning, or you can accept the offer we've given you, which is an improvement on your current deal, and you're already settled and making moves here with a squad development that's well under way".

I don't see them giving bolton permission as a foregone conclusion.

They won't have to pay that much compensation if he's only got a few months left on his contract will they?

Interesting that Palace have let him talk, they clearly would rather the cash than Dougie. I dont think he will leave because I dont think the man really has any ambition or belief in his own ability. Palace is a safe option for him. Bolton whilst in a pickle right now are a much better long term bet than Palace but I think he'll bottle it.

He's only got 7 months left on his contract at palace, any compo will be minimal.

He's on to a good thing at Palace. Doing well, loved (in the most part) by the fans.

Bolton fans are going to be on his back straight away for not being a big name, and are also going to expect too much, too soon.

He should stay at Palace; feel it a mistake for palace to accept a bid...can they afford to stop freedmans plan whilst they are doing so well? Players, especially youngsters, may be demoralised etc.

Good luck to all parties

Dont forget Bolton are currently getting parachute payments and I believe they do have bit of a WAR CHEST at the moment.

SSN now say that Bolton have been refused permission to talk to him by Palace.

If he wants to go and palace trying to stop him from talking, I would see him quitting.

Palace have put out an official statement saying that permission has been refused by them.

Oh dear. Palace are going to have to offer Dougie a good contract in the next day or so, or I reckon a resignation is on the cards.
