Now before I get slated, I am a huge fan and he is the best player I've seen in a Albion shirt but after all the goals he scored for us, even in our poor championship side he looked like he was going to be the real deal. Since leaving us he has never really set the world alight for a whole season. I may be wrong but I don't think he's scored 50 goals since leaving us.
Hope he bags a few tonight to prove me wrong.

More of a playmaker than goal scorer now. At top level never seemed to take his chances

I think you are forgetting his magnificent second season at Fulham where they finished seventh, got to a European final and he scored for fun all season.

He's had a really successful career, an established Premier League player & capped for England. Not sure what you were expecting really, he was never going to be the next Ronaldo!

Not saying he's a bad player, just thought he would be at a better team than QPR at this stage of his career

That was his best season and that performance at the San siro was top class. But only scored 8 league goals that season.

He's prob not overly bothered tbf. Has been raking in the Prem rate wages for a while now, played in some massive games as you say, including back-to-back promotions for BHA, and got West Sham promoted to the Prem almost single-handed a few years back as well. Pretty much a middle-of-the-road career, and has managed to stay healthy, so the boy has done good

He was a great player for us, at our level. In the prem, he's an OK striker, but not a great one. Lower prem. is his level, so good luck to him - no doubt he's done very well out of it, and had a career most of us could only dream of.

To be fair he was unlucky. Signed for Spurs in July 2003 by Hoddle. Hoddle was sacked that summer and replaced by Pleat ready for the 2003/4 season. Pleat didnt play him much, over half his 18 appearances in all comps came as sub. That seemed to knock his confidence massively. He then moved to Wet Sham where he started well but struggled as the team stuggled. He was immense at Fulham and then seemed t fal out with Jol who wanted rid. I guess QPR was a decent move for him personally and I imagine they are paying him better wages than most would.

He scored for fun for us and set a really high standard. As he has got older though he has become more of a taget man than an out and out goalscorer. If he came here and scored 12 a season but provided for others like he did at Fulham i'd be over the moon!!!! Could be worth a bid in January if QPR are bottom three and we remain top 3.......

Its a bit tricky. I would have picked Jimmy Greaves/Bobby Z over Geoff Hurst/Crouch for those really important games ... Jol at Fulham ain't no fool though.

Not for the Albion though. I would not swop Gus for any manager. Especially after the Taricco-Naylor interview today.

But then again I thought we played better against Birmingham than against Barnsley and apart from the keeper Barnsley were a better side. Well they had two good shots. What does that mean? We have got to get Vicente fit !!!

PS: Austin would be a better bet. He is younger.

We are just warming up for this season.

I read in a write up of tonight's game that the Zamora - Cisse partnership didn't seem to be working. This would seem to figure perhaps as Cisse has always come across as by far the biggest **** ever to player in the PL and Bobby has always seemed like a pretty amiable type of guy, so maybe the don't have much of an understanding... and playing under a moody old sod like Hughes too, can't be fun, at all.
Surely he wants back to Brighton in January......... ( :

That's my view personally too. Think he's done really well myself. Let's face it, if he was that bad he'd be back with us already.

i see some people are ignoring a troublesome achilles and a broken leg that have distrupted his career. from his Championship season at West ham clearly thats a level he'd excell at as a goal scorer, but at the top he offers more as a second striker. theres not many who've made it from teir 3 to teir 1 regular, so im wondering whats wasted.

clearly you have forgotten Diouf and Barton. Cisse is a long way behind, arrogant and aloof spring to mind.

ooops..! I was getting diouf and cisse mixed up in my head when I wrote that! You're spot on with Cisse - arrogant and aloof.
on an aside Diouf is definitely worse than Barton, imo, Now playing under Warnock who had previously said he couldn't stand him
