PROSPECTIVE Manchester City owner Dr Sulaiman Al Fahim has said he is prepared to bid a staggering £134million for United star Cristiano Ronaldo in the January transfer window, according to a report.

Al Fahim, who is on the verge of taking over the Blues through his United Group for Development and Investment, is determined to make City the biggest club on the planet.

“Ronaldo has said he wants to play for the biggest club in the world, so we will see in January if he is serious," Al Fahim told Arabian Business, the newspaper that broke the original takeover story,

"Real Madrid were estimating his value at $160 million but for a player like that, to actually get him, will cost a lot more, I would think $240 million.

"But why not? We are going to be the biggest club in the world, bigger than both Real Madrid and Manchester United."

The more clubs there are with money, the more competetive the football will be.

The situation where only one of 2 clubs could win the league, and a top 4 that were going to get into the Champions League 'automatically' was in danger of killing the spectacle.

I think this is great news. The next thing that needs to happen is the 6 English players in the starting lineup, then some of this vast cash mountain will start to trickle down to other English clubs rather than going abroad with the big money signings.

Decent English players would then be really valuable... encouraging clubs like our to work on their youth policies etc...

It will only work if the home country quota comes in though... as, obviously, they are much more likely to be from lower league English clubs... unless, of course, the Spanish / Italian / German clubs start signing up our 14 year olds??

As a guess the profit Man Utd make is part of their income so in theory will be taxed on the profit - if they make a profit overall of course.

it will actually be quite interesting to see whether over the next few years city fans start appearing in london and brighton. there are very few at the moment.

The difference between City and Chelsea is that Chelsea were never a popular club for a neutral in the first place, whereas there has always been a lot of affection for the perennial underdog that is Man City. Personally I don't see the point in people around the country now getting bitter about City, good luck to them. Interesting times ahead.
