Taking this as a precedent, how long should Ben Thatcher have got because that ticked all the boxes for GBH didn't it?

Excellent.

When are Lee McCulloch and Simon Morgan in court?

Which Thatcher challenge? The one against Mendes?

Surprised he only got Common Assault, Thought he would have at least got ABH.

Yep. The elbow that completely knocked him out - then Thatcher decided to give him some verbal for afters.

As bad as it was the Thatcher incident was sustained in a challenge. The Barrow player just committed unprovoked assault.

Agreed. Dont think it was a GBH type challenge as Thatcher didn't cause a serious enough injury did he?

???

I'd say that there was compelling evidence that it was a pre-meditated attack with no intention of playing the ball.

Also, did Mendes provoke him at any time?

I totally agree, but try proving that in court.

Worse happens on the Rugby field week in week out are the courts going to start stamping down on that?

Poor bastard, 4 months is more than most paedo's get these days.

Abort, retry, fail
There should definitely be a case against McCulloch, if this Barrow chap has been imprisoned, but I very much doubt anything will happen.

Bury make a clerical error and play an inelligible player in the FA Cup - they get dumped out of the cup and narrowly miss a fine.

FA Premier League CLubs invovled in bungs - what happens? Sweet FA.

Agree with the punch being seen regularly on a rugby pitch, but the Thatcher challenge? Genuine question as I don't really like Rugby and never watch anything other than internationals.

Also, it's the culture - thing. Rugby is far more of a physical game with a 'tolerance' of argy-bargy. Football is far more skilful (at the very top) and punching is always dealt with harshly.

I don't give a shit about issue-dodging "precendent" or such other drivel - I'm glad the thug's been banged up. And thankfully the game can start moving away from its traditional, awful "these things should be sorted out in-house" tenets - a thug's a thug. Good riddance and I hope the shower room Bootyman gets his oats.

Thatcher's challenge was hard and wanted to let the player he was about. He kinda over did it though. Personally I didn't think (as I don't with the Barrow fella) that it warented the old bill get involved. IMO some of the shocking two footed challenges (Dean Windass's the other week.....shocking!) you see are worse that what both Thatcher and the Barrow fella did.

Also I feel shoeing is a far lot worse than a bit of concusion (maybe not as a broke jaw though). A friend of mine is scarred for life from the side of eye to his ear where he got shoe'd the other week playing rugby. Half an inch to the right and he could have lost an eye. He say he watched the bloke plant his boot down on his face.

Agree completely, however assult is assult surely whether it be on the Rugby field or the shove h'apenny board?
