to be quite honest I think we are inflating their influence. Blackwell, maybe, but Cullip and Butters have been pretty solid. Rodger was pretty piss-poor at the start of this season, well, in comparsion to what we expected then, he was hardly setting the division alight. But I guess he started to improve in the chesterfield and sheff wed games, he wasnt any good when being used to cover on the left for Jones.
We miss Brooker the most I believe

rodger is a class player but he's not getting any younger,he missed large parts of his final years at palace due to bad knocks and may find the ruff and tumble of division 2 a bit tuff on his old bones.

If we had a full squad who never got injured and the rub of the green, every week, we could win this league. Sort it out Knight :)

I think you are missing the point. In the early games of the season, Coppell dropped Carpenter and played Oatway and Jolly. Rodger was carrying Oatway and so may have looked a tad off his game. However he is the one we miss more than anyone. At the moment nobody seems to be able to put their foot on the ball and play the simple pass.

we miss brooker more than anything. he would run at defenders and cause problems. and hwne he played, it was either him or jones, which meant you always had someone on the bench who could come on and change teh game

You don't know what you got until it's gone eh?

I too think Rodger's contribution is over-rated and won't care if he doesn't make it back. Blackwell I think and hope can still do the biz.

Butters has done a good job in Blackwell's absence, but we badly miss Rodger's contribution...

Please.....Butters is Crap and one of the main reasons we are doing poorly, he never wins a contested header.
Hinshelwood must play imho.

Blackwell and Rodger would have enhanced our side greatly had they been available.

Too true Lush. I for one often found Brooker infuriating when he was here. However I'd have him back at the drop of a hat to replace Jonah.

Couldn't agree less, Marshy. Butters has outplayed Cullip on many occasions this season. Butters' height has been key this season, and he wins virtually every header. Point in case, QPR on Saturday.

As I said in a different thread, only Jonny Wilkinson and Mike Catt find touch better than Hinshelwood. He is a major liability.

rodger worked his socks of and you didnt notice him much as he didnt do anything special but he tackled backed didnt play many if any misplaced passes and unlike oatway knew what he was doing

My Football year book had Blackwell down as our best defender and Rodger as our best midfielder.

Points are allocated on how many minutes between goals scored for and conceded against etc in ratio to appearances. Not opinion but plain facts.

We are bound to miss their experience.

Butters is, in fact, playing well and consistently so (never thought I'd be able to say THAT, at the start of the season!); while I appreciate we're all trying to pin the blame on someone for our lack of promotion form at the moment, it might be better not to target those (few, perhaps) who are actually doing the business for us just now?

A fit Rodger and Blackwell all season and we'd be 3rd or 4th now.

To be honest after QPR I finally realised that we need a lot of changes. Our midfield isn't good enough. We need people to win and chase but then to comethrough and score like QPR did.

QPR showed that two good central defenders who do nothing more than hoof the ball out of the field - but make sure noone goes through on goal, and then a midfield to chase and drive forward. Who do we have to do that? Not sure OGH is doing it, certainlt not driving on goal enough. Charlie fights hard and delivers little. Chippy is due to retire. Who else do we have that is fit?
