My phone is on its last legs. I have been looking at unlocked Blackberry's on Ebay. Quite good prices ranging from 25 - 250. I'm not bothered about the latest or greatest I just want something with a keyboard as I do a lot of texting.

At the moment I have an O2 pay as you go phone.

My question is and does anyone know if the Blackberry constantly transmits data and if so would this end up eating in to my balance?

Or get a Giff Gaff payg sim. Currently for a tenner a month you get unlimited data + texts, plus a bunch of minutes. No contract.

I use this for my Android with no issues with data - email, Twitter, etc.

I had a Blackberry Storm (touch screen) which was shit.
Before that I had a Blackberry Curve (with Qwerty) which was ace.

The wife had a Blackberry Pearl (keys but not Querty) which she liked, but I thought was crud.

My daughter had a Storm (lost) and now a Blackberry Torch (touch screen and qwerty) which is likes but says is slow to do anything.

My son has a Blackberry Curve 8520 which he says is "standard".

On O2 you can get a balckberry pay as you go which includes unlimited blackberry email etc if you top up £15 a month.

email data is very small and you wouldnt eat into any data allowance substantialy. though be sure to turn it off if abroad as the roaming data fees can be eye wateringly high.

I had a Curve and loved it. Upgraded to the Bold and although it took a while to get used to the new software I now love that too. Can be a bit slow at times.

Worthing
One thing to be cautious with blackberries is that if they have ever been part of an enterprise server with set policy rules then it's VERY difficult to remove them unless you find the original sysadmin and ask nicely - so make sure if you do buy one off ebay it wasn't sold by someone who 'borrowed' it.

My advice however is to get an Android phone with a QWERTY keyboard if you're not going to use the blackberry for what it does best (corporate stuff)

I've got a Blackberry Torch, the only reason is that I get about 80 email a day and for that purpose the BB reigns supreme, as a phone it is fine, the apps are a bit hit and miss, and the touch screen is bobbins compared to an iPhone or HTC, but does the job adequately most of the time.

I got a Bold 9000, i got it off ebay, and its been fine.

I use it mainly for internet stuff and emails, as well as sms, and it was only meant to be a small phone i could use whilst i looked for decent android phone, but its suited my needs to a tee so i've put that on hold. Great little phone.

In terms of email's, and being careful with your data, email's dont take up much usage at all. its the facebook and twitter apps that rip into the data usage.
