I think the last episode of 4, when the boys go over the top, is about the most affecting bit of television I can remember.

I agree. Brilliant piece of television in any genre.

The bit where George says, 'Sir, I'm scared' is massive lump in the throat moment

Spot on guys. There was one of those polls that Channel 4 do (pretty much every week!) where they were counting down the top tv moments, and that final scene won it.

In that Speckled Jim episode in the 4th series, the firing squad were quite funny as well.

I think all 4 were brilliant, but my favourite is the one originally mentioned.

Series 2 is my favourite, closely followed by 4. 3 is okay, but always felt like Blackadder by numbers. I did watch the first series when it came out, and at the time it was very funny. I think series two was just so much better that series one now doesn't come close.

Favourite episode has to be Potato from series 2, you know the one with Tom Baker:

Captain Rum: Aaah! You have a woman's purse, My Lord! I wager that purse has never been used as a rowing boat. I'll wager it's never had sixteen shipwrecked mariners tossing in it!

:lolol:

Ben Elton seems to get a right slagging half the time, but I think he's a brilliant comedy writer. His stand-up stuff in The Man from Auntie was absolutel quality as well.

Edmund: Ah, that's awkward. The Duke must believe from the very start that I am you.

Prince George: Hmm, well, hmm, any ideas?

Edmund: There's no alternative, we must swap clothes.

Prince George: Oh fantastic, yes, dressing up. I love it. It's just like that story, ah, "The Prince And The Porpoise".

Edmund: "..and the Pauper" sir.

Prince George: Oh yes! Yes yes yes, "The Prince and the Porpoise and the Pauper".

Quality.

That episode was on last night - definitely the best of series 3. Fry is excellent as the Duke of Wellington, kicking the crap out of Hugh Laurie!

Blackadder: A man may fight for many things. His country, his friends, his principles, the glistening tear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I'd mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of French porn.

Blackadder Christmas Carol is superb as is the English Civil war bit at the end of the tape.

Watched two episodes from Series 3 last night: some good stuff. Amazingly, Mrs Gwylan had never seen any before.

I must say that I think the first series was the funniest - certainly the one I'd most like to see repeated.
