Black Holes and Bankruptcy

Would the club be bankrupt now if we hadnt managed to mug Celtic for the transfer fees received for Adam Virgo and Leeds for Harding?

As at the begining of that season we werent expecting either of those players to be worth anywhere near those amounts, are the club exceptionaly lucky to still be around considering we cant find the relatively small amounts required to secure the services of players with decent div 1 experience?

Think it's a tremendous feat of money management by the Club combined with several huge lumps of luck re: transfers and cup-ties to keep the club out of receivership this long. For which we should all be truly grateful. Amen.

As long as Falmer is a real possibility, there will always be someone willing to lend us money or take a punt on it coming good. If Falmer is turned down, we should all start worrying.

If we really are that near to the brink shouldnt we be told? Or would that play into LDC hands?

Please forgive me, but when i see comments like this I get a mental picture of the kind of person typing them.

You have been told!

remember 2 years ago when the alive and kicking fund was launched. You were told that we had a shortfall of c£2.5m and that we were losing money on an ongoing basis.

The fund raised only £250k - we sold cullip and curry total £0.5m, spurs £200k, virgo £1.5m and harding for £400k. That covered the loss capital figure of the loss but not the reason behind the losses.

Then we signed carole, turienzo etc. Had further delays and another public inquiry and still had the reason behind the losses (no stadium). The board gave some money, we sold leon (didn't make much profit due to chelsea sell on clause) and sold CKR.

But we are still losing money.

That isn't rocket science, it isn't even a shock opiece of information. In fact it has been in the public domain and you could have found it out if you had really tried.

But then, why should you? You made an allegation on here the other day that Knight turned down investment. That would be interesting if you could substantiate that.

We were told that the club needed money from Alive and kicking and for the most part we raised from one way or another the money required. That was two years ago, so I am perfectly entitled to question where we are today without working it all out with assumptions and maybes.

The club should not have gone and spent money on Turienzo if it couldnt afford it putting us in further trouble, in fact we are constantly told money IS available for signings at transfer windows, but players never arrive. We now have most of our youth team from the last few years playing as our first eleven.

Id just like to know what the situation is to be honest, why are we in so much shit? We run Withdean now and our crowds are competitive for the division, I know the the public enquiries cost us but to what extent? Are we about to go bust was the question I was asking and if so should we be told?

Sorry ROSM, but you criticising anyone questioning the club with perfectly valid questions is quite frankly pathetic. Its people like you that probably were pro Archer and Belotti until it was unquestionably undeniable what was going on.

Ive personally learnt that I will always question things that are happening if it looks like we are in trouble. I pay my money and thats my right.

TLO, not everybody reads every post, I genuinely dont know how close we are to financial meltdown and I dont honestly believe anybody else does either. So its a valid question is it not?

Billy Brown is putting the majority of the money we need to stay afloat

The same Billy Brown I was told attempted to buy the club when we first got back to the Championship but was turned down by DK, even though DK was told he could remain as chairman. How true that is I dont know.

But you're not asking the question to the right people, are you? If you really wanted to know the answer, you would ask the club, either via the relevant forum on here or a direct email to Paul Camillin.

The fact you have asked it on here can quite easily be interpreted as that you wanted to make a political point about the running of the club, hence ROSM's inference to shit-stirring.

So which is it?

Besides, I know the answers because they have been told in a variety of places on a variety of platforms. It's not as though I am part of any inner magic circle, or am privvy to seeing seven magpies.

ACTUALLY, THE CLUB STATED THERE WAS A SHORTFALL AND THAT WE WERE CONTINUING TO LOSE MONEY. THE SHORTFALL HAS BEEN MET (MOSTLY BY SELLING PLAYERS) BUT THE REASON BEHIND THE LOSSES HASN'T BEEN RESOLVED AND FURTHER EXPENDITURE HAS TAKEN PLACE

That was two years ago, so I am perfectly entitled to question where we are today without working it all out with assumptions and maybes.

YES YOU ARE ENTITLED TO ASK QUESTIONS - BUT WHY AREN'T YOU ASKING THE CLUB? HOWEVER, WITHOUT ASSUMPTIONS AND MAYBES, MANY OF THE ANSWERS ARE IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN ALREADY. ALL I HAVE DONE IS BRING THAT INFORMATION TO YOUR ATTENTION

The club should not have gone and spent money on Turienzo if it couldnt afford it putting us in further trouble, in fact we are constantly told money IS available for signings at transfer windows, but players never arrive. We now have most of our youth team from the last few years playing as our first eleven.

WE MADE LITTLE OR NO IMPRESSION IN THE TRANSFER WINDOW LAST NEW YEAR AND THIS SUMMER - BUT THEN YOU SAY WE SHOULDN'T HAVE SIGNED ANOTHER PLAYER THE WINDOW BEFORE. IT IS MY BELIEF THAT MONEY WAS AVAILABLE DURING THE LAST WINDOW. WHETHER IT IS NOW WITH THE CONTINUING FALL IN CROWDS IS DEBATABLE.

Id just like to know what the situation is to be honest, why are we in so much shit? We run Withdean now and our crowds are competitive for the division,

WE STILL RENT WITHDEAN - WE PAY AN AMOUNT DIRECT TO THE COUNCIL WHEREAS WE USSED TO PAY AN AMOUNT TO ECOVERT WHO PAID IT TO THE COUNCIL. IT STILL COSTS US MONEY AND WE STILL DONT HAVE THE METHODS OF MAKING EXTRA INCOME AS OTHER CLUBS DO. ALSO OUR CROWDS ARE NOT THAT GREAT - I THINK OUR AVERAGE IS ABOUT 14TH IN THE DIVISION WHICH IS ROUGHLY IN LINE WITH WHERE WE ARE IN THE LEAGUE.

I know the the public enquiries cost us but to what extent? Are we about to go bust was the question I was asking and if so should we be told?

THE ACCOUNTS ARE PUBLISHED EACH YEAR AND THEY SHOW THE CLUB OPERATING AT A LOSS. THAT LOSS IS MET BY DIRECTORS AND SHAREHOLDERS, PLAYERS SALES OR WINDFALLS. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE CLUB LIVES A HAND TO MOUTH EXISTANCE. WE ARE NOT IN A POSITION TO BORROW LARGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY FROM BANKS AS THE ONLY ASSETS WE WOULD HAVE ARE PLAYERS. THEREFORE, WHILST EXPENDITURE WOULD REDUCE WE ARE UNLIKELY TO SUFFER A WINDING UP ORDER EXCEPT FROM AN UNPAID SUPPLIER OF THE TAX PEOPLE. IT ISN'T THAT DIFFICULT TO WORK OUT WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF SHAREHOLDERS ETC STOPPED FUNDING THE GAP. WE WOULD HAVE TO REDUCE EXPENDITURE.

Sorry ROSM, but you criticising anyone questioning the club with perfectly valid questions is quite frankly pathetic.

ACTUALLY, YOUR INSINUATIONS I FIND RATHER TIRESOME TOO. YOU MADE A DIRECT ALLEGATION THE OTHER DAY ABOUT KNIGHT AND TODAY YOU ELABORATE ON IT AND SAY 'HOW TRUE IT IS I DONT KNOW'. IF YOU READ ON HERE I DONT 'CRITICISE ANYONE QUESTIONING THE CLUB' - BUT I DO ENTER INTO DEBATE WITH THOSE WHO MAKE COMMENTS I FEEL STRONGLY ABOUT. OR IS THIS MESSAGE BOARD ONLY FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO HAVE THEIR SAY BUT DONT WANT TO DEBATE THINGS?

Its people like you that probably were pro Archer and Belotti until it was unquestionably undeniable what was going on.

WHAT A GREAT GENERALISATION - ACTUALLY IAN HART WILL BE ABLE TO VERIFY THAT WHEN BELLOTTI WAS BEING LAUDED BY GULLS EYE, I ACTUALLY WARNED IAN ABOUT HIM. BUT THAT PROBABLY DOESN'T SUIT YOUR VIEWPOINT OF ME.

SINCE THE BELLOTTI AND ARCHER DAYS I THINK MANY SUPPORTERS HAVE BECOME MORE SAVVY ABOUT FINANCIAL MATTERS. THIS CLUB AND BOARD IS UNDER GREATER SCRUTINY THAN ANY OTHERS IN THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE. BUT THERE IS A MAJOR DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ASKING QUESTIONS AND INNUENDO. I ANSWERED SOME OF THE POINTS YOU RAISED AS YOU WROTE THEM ON A MESSAGE BOARD. AGAIN THE ANSWERS MAYBE DONT FIT YOUR VIEWS. IF YOU HAD ASKED THE CLUB THEN YOU WOULD GET ANSWERS FROM THEM.

Ive personally learnt that I will always question things that are happening if it looks like we are in trouble. I pay my money and thats my right.

INDEED IT IS - IT IS ALSO MY RIGHT TO HAVE A VIEWPOINT TOO. YOU SEEM KEEN TO HAVE FREE SPEECH PROVIDED IT IS YOU AND THOSE YOU AGREE WITH HAVING THAT SPEECH.

As someone who has previously been classed as a "doubt"er... I have received answers to any direct questions (that are realistic) I have asked of the club (usually via email to Martin Perry).

Most information is in the public domain but it might not be a bad idea for the club to publish an abridged financial statement to outline the position.

Care needs to be taken to ensure that enemies of the club are not presented with information that they can make political gains from.

This is a complete load of crap, I have no problem with any viewpoint, what I DO have an issue with is the underhanded sarcasm and pathetic tones that you use in your replies to anything you dont agree with or like that is written here.

It makes you look a bit of an idiot, but if you want to conduct yourself in that manner feel free.

This is the point I have just made on the other thread.

The problem is that a lot of people can't be bothered to email Martin Perry (who as Lord B has said many times) does answer emails to him, but prefer to spout off on Nsc with half truths and their opinions which may or may not be based on facts.
