This will end in tears. Can you ever imagine Rooney in the Prem trying to outwir, Pep, Klopp, RDZ, Poch, Emery et al? Joke decision.
Gerrard, Rooney and Lampard will forever get jobs on their names alone regardless of having achieved zilch as managers. It's stange how this happens in football.

Well if I had to appoint one of Lamps, Stevie G, or Rooney I think I'd go Rooney.
Lampard as last choice though I did enjoy his recent "I'm interested in rangers job" leaks which did succeed in getting him an interview (presumably to keep a few idiot fans off the boards back) followed by a swift and firm no.

Well.....for a while. Gerrard has already left football (he's managing in Saudi Arabia). Lamps is out of work, and Rooney is about to start his final manager job, at age 30 something.

They will all be back at some point; I guarantee this.

They always seem to sack managers when they're in a good position and then fall down the table. Almost like they're not Premier League Ready ™️ and tanking
They are definitely not at the moment but the owners have big plans, including a new stadium. From Carling Cup winners and Europa League in 2011, their decline has been incredible. But I do think that from years of mediocrity they arE now on the way back and whether or not Rooney works out they will be back in the Premier League within the next few years, having been circling the plug hole of League One for several years under the previous ownership.

What's the betting there will be a Birmingham City documentary on the horizon, which of course would be much more sell'able to a big TV steaming service with Rooney in charge. Pretty much the only reason I can come up with for sacking Eustace that is explainable.

I don't actually know whether or not you own a Championship football club, but if you do then I'd like to point out that you don't have to consider any of them and that they're all, in fact, absolute shite.

Ok. But what if through an incredibly far fetched Brewster's Millions type scenario I found myself with a controlling interest in Portsmouth and needed to pick the one most likely to earn a record breaking third administration?

Oh crap that's too easy it's Lamps again.

Rooney’s record has actually been about average. At Derby he worked under very trying circumstances with a big points deduction and was reasonably popular I believe despite the relegation. I didn’t really follow his stint in the US but it seemed a bit meh more than anything. I’d go average rather than shite to be fair. Potter at Chelsea was a better definition of shite I’d say. Rooney‘s extra curricular activities probably lead to an overall negative impression rather than specifically what he has done as a manager so far.

Discussed on R5 tonight.

I am thinking we need a league table of shitehouse clubs.

Presently Birmingham Shitty are right up there for me. You'd have thought that sacking a successful manager, Rowett (40% wins), to bring in numb-nuts shitforbrains Zola who stunk the place out (8% wins) would have taught them a lesson, but no.

(When Newcastle, second in the EPL, sack Smeddie, they will perhaps hit #1 spot but, to be fair, Newcastle have managed their affairs well since the take over, ultimate nobber ownership notwithstanding).

More Brum. Shitehouse or what? The last column is win %. Nobody better than the first man in that list who was sacked. Whatever happened to him I wonder? ???

I think that phrase is extremely harsh. No doubt their faceless Chinese owners screwed them around for more than 10 years starting with the sacking of Rowett, and selling off the ground (sound familiar?) and their fans have suffered ever since and been shouting it out to anyone listening. Two sides of the ground have never properly re—opened since Covid for example. The fans managed to grind the Chinese owners down particularly by finding out various illegal activities they had performed. Then they get new owners in, with ambition, who buy back the ground as part of the deal but then make another managerial change which again is unpopular. Does that make them a shite house club?

If shitty owners making shitty decisions, including selling off the ground and everything else of value, turns you into a shite house club, then I’d say your memory is rather short…. Selling off the ground? Parts of the ground closed off as unsafe? Hated faceless owners? 16 managers in 14 years? Sound familiar?

Those three will be the Bruce, Pulis and Allardyce of the future.

Guaranteed work despite showing no outward signs of managerial ability.

EDIT: Ironically those three are currently out of work. I stand by the joke.

Perhaps I am harsh.

But what makes you think the new owners are the equivalent of Archer and chums?

For me to be a shitehouse cub you need owners with a ridiculous level of entitlement. Sacking a manager when in the top six in the Championship (Rowett) to replace him with a more well-known person, is shitehouse. It is a far cry from the Archer years at Brighton.

When this malarkey goes on year after year the club becomes shitehouse. Now they have repeated the Rowett trick, with new owners....well, what sort of club is that?

We are talking nearly 10 years of tomfoolery here.

Very harsh - yes.

From 1995 onwards Albion had 16 managers in 14 years. Blues have not had that many but you won’t find a Blues fan out there happy with what has gone on for the last 10+ years. The owners have had to be hounded out, look at the many lengthy investigations done by a fan called Almajir for example. They escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth on multiple occasions, having been Carling Cup winners and in the Europa league the year before. Every decent player was sold, often for peanuts. They have had points deductions for the substantial losses built up season after season too.

Several of those managers were caretakers and others, eg Garry Monk, were sacked for other reasons which I won’t go into, but if Monk stayed Bellingham would have left the club for nothing (whereas they got £35m for him).

Suddenly they get new owners and the fans have hope. They buy the ground back, they start repairing it. having not had a penny spent on it for probably 20+ years and there is a feel good factor returning. Indeed in many ways it does sound like Dick Knight and chums. Then they make this decision about sacking Eustace and the jury is really out on that from what I read and risks gambling the goodwill the new owners had built up. But their plans for the club are significant, including looking at a large site nearby for a new stadium, and you can expect a lot of change there in the next few years.

With a lot of friends and family who have lived that decline , I did find your comments rather ‘clickbait’ to be honest, but each to their own. I don’t think the Zulus get down to Faversham these days, not unless invited at least 😆

"No outward signs of managerial ability."

Granted, they are walking definitions of yesterday's men and long outstayed their welcome, but regardless this doesn't stand up to any scrutiny whatsoever.

Bruce's record was excellent until maybe the last 3 or 4 years of his managerial career, and Pulis and Allardyce were huge successes at Stoke and Bolton. Pulis was called "Stoke's greatest ever manager" by their chairman in 2011 (9th 3 years in a row, FAC final, Europa league football), Allardyce took Bolton to 5th, a League cup final and Europe.

Call me when Rooney, Gerrard and Lampard can hold a candle to those records.

Interesting insight thank you for that. Could you clarify how Monk staying would have meant they got nothing for Bellingham? I got curious about Monk as I hadn't heard his name for a while, seems he had a pretty decent record at all of his clubs but has been out of work for 3 years for some reason

That's fair.

These days though? Buncha jokers.
