So anyway, should we be looking forward to Haydon Roberts being called up to the England squad for the March 2023 international matches?!
Doing your nation down a bit there. Got to the world cup quarter final. Now added Zlatan. Shouldn't be getting crushed by a relegation threatened PL club who have only registered one decent sized win, against Portsmouth, all season
Looks as if Robert Sanchez turned down the chance to be in today's England squad. Southgate does know Brighton players exist after all!

Walton must be kicking himself.
If Ben Robert’s record is anything to go by, he could’ve ended up in the same position as Sanchez, if he hadn’t got injured.
I know it's what the cool kidz say but there's more chance of me watching Bob playing for Spain than a Brightonless Kane/Maguire led England.
Sorry if this was covered way back, but presumably Bob only gets tied to Spain if he actually plays rather than just being in the squad?
If so perhaps that would mean he's a bit more likely to be given a game to lock his choice in?

Article 5.2 adds that: "...any player who has already participated in a match (either in full or in part) in an official competition of any category or any type of football for one association may not play an international match for a representative team of another association."

All 3 of their upcoming fixtures are qualifiers so minutes in any one should lock him in.
He's given zero indication that he wants to play for England, has he? He's Spanish. His heroes are Spanish. Can't see him jumping ship now, even if he doesn't get minutes this month.
Despite all the tabloid articles, he's not eligible to play for England, under the terms of the Home Nations agreement as ratified by FIFA:
(as per Wikipedia)
The home nations have agreed to remove a clause that enables players to gain eligibility for one of the eight national teams due to residency. The FIFA statutes state that "Associations sharing a common nationality may make an agreement under which item (d) of par. 1 of this article is deleted completely or amended to specify a longer time limit". The clause removed is:
(d) He has lived continuously on the territory of the relevant Association for at least two years
The criteria for eligibility to represent a home nation is:
A Player who, under the terms of art. 5, is eligible to represent more than one Association on account of his nationality, may play in an international match for one of these Associations only if, in addition to having the relevant nationality, he fulfils at least one of the following conditions:
a) He was born on the territory of the relevant Association;
b) His biological mother or biological father was born on the territory of the relevant Association;
c) One of his biological grandparents was born on the territory of the relevant Association;
d) He has engaged in a minimum of five years education under the age of 18 within the territory of the relevant association.

I’m not sure that is relevant as it refers to “associations sharing a common nationality” which wouldn’t apply to England and Spain.
