I used to like bradford , a couple of pubs the old crown, up a steep hill in the town centre and belle Vue pub along manningham Lane near the ground, proper old school rippers pubs a pound or 50p pence for a little show.(sorry for the pun) great days, good towns and rough as fk.

Up and Coming Sunny Portslade
The Flying Scotsman.
This, if you were coming home through Kings Cross.

We used to go to Sinclairs in Manchester before any game in that area. Coming home if you had to change at Doncaster there was a pub just outside the station where the bar was about six foot high when you walked in so any SHORTARSES has to go to the back of the pub to get served. And the Wheeltappers in Taunton after Plymouth which served jet fuel disguised as cider. Long gone now as I discovered with the aid of Google maps.

Once played Blackburn away last game of the season and did a half in every pub between Mill Hill and the ground with some of their firm. Every bit as scary and disorientating as it sounds.

The Fatherland
Southend seafront, bar with the strippers on at lunchtime, many of us that day didn’t make Roots Hall
So you didn’t catch the game, did you catch anything else?

The Avenue then Maloncho
As mentioned Sinclairs in Manchester was a must, probably the cheapest pub I’ve ever been in.
I used to go to a few during that era with Mrs PWK and traveling without colours and with “a bird” opened doors, we frequently liked going in pubs with a edge, such as The Peacock in Leeds, Pompey’s Gun Club or The Queen’s at West Ham, our favourite was The Golden Lion at Millwall, once staying post match for about four hours, we had quite a laugh however we never outed ourselves 🤣🤣

Yates in Manchester (before they became a national chain) used to be good. Manager was an old school City fan who was happy to welcome in supporters on their way to other matches.

Not quite a pub but always loved the old Corner Post at Hartlepool from the gory years. Friendly, cheap drinks, a ham and pease pudding bap and they always seemed amazed we had bothered to go that far to watch as we were so shit then.

What is it with stripper pubs? There are plenty of decent pubs in Bradford, so why go to two the skankiest?

I can barely remember where I went to last month, let alone 40 years ago. But I do remember the old local breweries: a pint of Tolly Cobbalds before Ipswich, Vaux before Sunderland, Robinsons before Stockport etc

Because I enjoyed it and brought some blinding memories and laughs back, I met some decent bradford lads in those pubs aswell.
Skankie to you, but real pubs to me, excuse my sins.

Boddingtons wasn’t the worst beer around back in the middle 70’s. My sister moved to Stockport so used to crash with her on the Saturday night of many an away game back then.. Many a nice night in The George and Dragon in Stockport on Boddies.

Hove actually
Trying to remember the one in Preston that acted as the hub before trips to Blackburn etc. Meat and potato pie, mushy peas and gravy all washed down with a pint of something.
