Hither (sometimes Thither)
I am hugely torn here. Partly by my hampered dead memory, but then with seeing immodest flashes of smouldering evenings thrilled and intensified by music and/or any cohort i may have had with me.
I did enjoy the Brixton Academy Mandela show thing the day before the millions all got together and enjoyed white man's popular rock. Just a day of hip-hop and reggae with the Jungle Brothers and Public Enemy and Stetsasonic, films of the harlem globetrotters dribbled on vast canvasses, talks from Winnie Mandela (in her pre-murder days) and Jesse Jackson. Seemed to be a very welcome mood of culture and witnessable sculpture.

I also enjoyed the Flaming Lips at Glasto in about 99. One of the smaller tents before they were famous enough to master huge stages. I had obviously been lost in my head and the fields of sleepless grass for a couple of days, so the sober moments with them seemed beautiful.

Now, that's some combination.

I never saw them live, sadly...

The Fall/Birthday Party gig was doubly tremendous as it came just as they had released "Hex Enduction Hour" and "Junkyard" - their respective finest hours in my opinion.

I saw RR&P in Bradford in 1981: they were pretty good but not in my top 10.

I was in London in 1982, how the hell did I miss out on the Fall/BP gig? I must have been completely stoned or something.

If I remember right it was around Easter time - the end of March.

Ah...I was in Bridlington Easter 1982, the Young Socialists conference.

It must have taken something like that for me to miss two of my fave bands.

Actually, my favourite gig was one I took part in at the Birmingham Midland Institute while a student. After playing a few Beatles songs as part of an acoustic duo, we got to watch the rest of the bill including a ballroom dancing couple who'd forgotten their music and had to perform without, and an old man singing sea shanties. A legendary line-up.

On NSC for over two decades...
Favourite still has to be Faith No More at Brixton Academy in '97.

Special mention for Pusherman at Shafts (Glamorgan Student Union) a couple of times in the 90's. Great live band, never made it big, get a copy of 'Floored' as its an awesome album.
