Kurt Ngan as we paid nothing for him and he was really poor everywhere he went after that.

Paul Holsgrove - nothing to £110,000 in a few weeks.

Mark Beeney - saved the club.

Virgs - top money. Wholehearted, popular player, but Celtic standard, and as valuable as Zamora? I don't think so. Great business.

Mark Lawrenson £900,000 in the early '80s was a massive amount of money to recive for a defender.

In todays money I reckon that would be at least £10 million???

Dean Saunders - can't believe we got sixty grand for him. Marvellous piece of business acumen. :jester:

Beeney was a decent keeper but not worth the £750k we needed and received to keep the club afloat.

I always thought Andy Ritchie for Terry Connor was a shrewd bit of business. Ritchie was ordinary whereas Connor ended up playing and scoring for the Eng U21 team.

It should be added that Connor only played for the U-21's because the game was at the Goldstone and they new it would get a crowd in. He was about 26 at the time!!:)

Interesting - I'd have said that was slightly under what he was worth at the time. How incredibly unsurprising that Albion undersold yet again...

Possibly but we would have sold the whole team for that. Many believe that Albion old boy, Howrad Wilkinson who was mananger at Leeds at the time, took pity on us and paid over the odds for Beeny to keep us afloat.

Mind you, we signed a certain Teedy Maybnk for the then astronomic fee of £220,000 (a ridiculous fee for a relatively uknown player in 1977). That was Alan Mullery digging into the coffers to bale out Fulham, his old team. Maybank, like so many of Mullery's signings was pretty much crap.

Yep. I think Mullery belongs on the "overrated" thread somewhere.
