I know it Deano, it's Windmill Row by the big Tesco's with the Tapas place across the road.
Did you ever eat the pizzas up Kennington Rd in 'Bar Room Bar', outside the War Museum? 2 for 1 thursdays.

I use to work round the corner from there in Kennington Lane! - while Tescos was still the Gin Factory. The Tapas place is La Finca - opposite The Dog House (one of the best ever names for a pub IMHO)

The one by Uncle Sams on Carden Avenue's not bad at all. That or the one just up from the Hollingbury pub.

Has to be the Chip Basket in Hove (Church Road). Reasonable prices and portions. Very tasty and so highly recommended.

One of several.

Agree with Bankers. The Seagull on the seafront road - quality chips (bit sick though seeing as it is next to the Sealife Centre). The Model at Preston Drove. The chippy in Beaconsfield Parade - although the owners are grumpy sods.

The best one always was (haven't been there for a while), the Chippy in Upper Lewes Road. Perfect pies, perfect fish, beyond perfect chips.

BTW - the best chippy in the country is in Carfax in Oxford. Down one of those twittens in the city centre. I stop off there on the way back from Albion games oop north.

Remember having a barney with a friend from Hull, she was claming there are no decent chippies in the south. All the best ones are in the north - especially Harry Ramsden 'they're the only one who make proper fish and chips'. So I vomited into her quiche lorraine.

Seconded. I grew up in Edinburgh road, so that place was my local chippy. Top quality.

The Friar Tuck, if it's still there, in Patcham is good too - used to go there some lunchtimes in my Fawcett days.

Definitely not the one down Heathhill Ave. I went in there and asked for 3 cod & chips once, they said, "What's cod?"

Upper Lewes Road is still my favourite chippy even though I moved from the area over 10 years ago.

Can't say I ever understood anything that the owners' son ever said to me in there, but we had some great conversations!!:lolol:

I've never tried the one in Baker Street, though, so can't compare personally, but have heard good things about it.

Rubbish

Harry Ramsden's are overpriced mass manufactured now.

The original one in Guiseley (nr Leeds) was good but they became a chain and so ruined.

Nope, never went there, but I left the area in '84 so it may not have existed when I lived there. Tapas in Kennington? When I was there it was the Windmill, a very greasy Kebab or an Indian restaurant full of MPs (enough to put you off your Chicken Tikka Masalla I can tell you).

The place really started going somewhere around 85'.You can't move now for the wine bars, boutiques,Sushi bars, VW dealers and Sussex cricketers unfamiliar with 1st Div grounds.

Bardsleys is amazing!! the fish in there is incredible and very good value for money. Brighton needs an 'arry Ramsdens, there's one in Bournemouth and it's great ( u have to eat in to have the decent stuff the takeaway is crap). In worthing u can't beat good "old Nick's" the owner is a bit of a tit, but the food is awesome, me and beeneys gloves used to stop off there every weekend before going to the Goldstone.....ahhh them were the days.......cheers hanks.

I beg to differ, the Eat in Restaraunts still uses the same recipe for the batter and the fish is of the highest and freshest quality, however the takeaway part is crap.

Dwayne, you are the same age as my daughter and I can tell you they have gone downhill from what they were.

That includes eating in as well.

I had a harry Ramsdens n Bristol about a month ago. It was poor, the chips were overdone, the fish was in good condition but the batter was poor. Didn't like it at all.

There is a chippy called Henry Higgins at the top of Elm Grove which is crap aswell.

Forgot one, the Codfather in Hanover is a quality chipy, huge portions.
