With so many cooking programs on TV who is the best or favourite chef. Wife has recorded and watched Lets do Christmas with Gino and Mel and Gino D'ACAMPO is my current favourite.

Interesting that I read he or his company is the 2nd biggest importer of Italian food in the UK.

Although I emjoy programs about food a lot and like learning new recipes, ingredients etc I do think most TV chefs come across as utter arseholes and I try to blank them out as much as possible when watching the programs. Nigel Slater is OK I guess although he seems to think everybody does their food shopping in Knightsbridge. I like it when they repeat old Keith Floyd stuff

If you like your food covered in olive oil, lemon juice and chilli...no matter what your food is, Jamie Oliver is your man. I do like his "just throw a bit of that in" style of cooking though.

Surely the answer to the question "Who's the best chef" is Heston Blumenthal - if you run one of the best restaurants in the world, then you're clearly ahead of the field.

If you're talking about which chef makes the most interesting food. I also like Lorraine Pascal's simple dishes - not top-quality cuisine perhaps but simple and quick to make at home

I read Gordon Ramsey's autobiography a few years back and he was asked this very same question. He said Nigel Slater as well, but added the caveat that he's more a "cook" than a chef.

Jamie Oliver, and his show with Jimmy is on tonight at 9pm C4 guest Gwyneth Paltrow - which looks pretty funny.
Also my wife made it, so I'm kinda proud
