As much as I hate saying it I guess PC World is a reasonable choice for cheapish PC's
or any of their clones. Currys,Comet, etc etc

We live just off Portland Road and there's a little independant shop where we bought ours and its been great. Let me know if you wnat more info.
Sorry, but I bought a laptop from PC world a few years back and i've had nothing but trouble from it, with little support from them - assholes!!

I knew a few independents in Eastbourne but not Portslade. Though a little more expensive then PC World etc, it is not much and the support service is a lot better.

PC World have some that are very cheap. Not sure how reliable longterm though. Ive bought 3 through Dell & they've all been spot on. Just buy on-line rather than over the phone.

Never ever buy from PC World! they just buy in bulk from a manufacturer so its a little cheaper but the support is terrible. I have a 6 year old Dell that hasn't put a foot wrong despite being a little out of date now. Looking at new ones from Dell and Mesh at the moment.

I got sold a slower p/c than the one I paid for, by a big conglomerate. It was my first p/c, and since it didn't have any obvious signs on the outer case about the model's speed, I didn't find out for 3 years!!
Happily, it got a nasty virus and broke down - and I had an extended warranty. When I called them about it, they at first tried to say I was trying it on, with the wrong computer to get fixed.
I ended up getting ALL my original money refunded, and that bought me a WHOLE lot better and faster p/c (3 years after my first one), and with £500 in change after choosing the top latest model.
Winner!

Picked mine up from www.pcspecialist.co.uk They were excellent, built it to my specifications, decent price, very well packed for delivery and delivered exactly when they said they would. Had one minor problem with the set up, called their tech support and they called me back, so as not to cost me money, and was sorted within a couple of hours.

Just beat me to it. I'm sitting here with a 2 year old pcspecialist PC and it still works fine. Had to pay by cheque (didn't take debit cards when I ordered mine) but their customer service was great. I've had 2 problems with the PC (broken Graphics card and Power Supply), they sent off a replacement the very same day. I even ended up getting an upgrade on my Graphics card to a 7600GS (from a 6600GT) because they weren't supplied with the 6600 anymore.
They are quite cheap, and a 2 year warranty only works out at about £69 (which is bloody good considering nearly everything in the PC is covered AND they pay for all postage if you need to send parts back to them for inspection).
Highly recommended.

Agreed, Dell would be my first choice but Mesh are good bet too. Still, where are the Mac people's advice ?

Realy depends what you want the pc for. If its general stuff such as surfing, word etc then a basic pc will be fine. Ebuyer have a good range of pcs. I bought a pc from europc.co.uk that sell Refurbished packard bells. Had mine for over two years and nothing has gone wrong with it.
If wanting to play games going need to spend a lot more money and you will need specialise a bit more. As package pc (main streams ones) tend not to supply a decent graphic card. Other option is to build it yourself.
