Best BHAFC Goalkeeper

Perry Digweed was my favourite keeper, but the one I think was the best was John Keeley, closely followed by Ben Roberts and Mark Beeney.

To complete the set, the worst regular keeper for me was Nicky Rust. No idea how this man ever managed to become a professional keeper. The most over rated by a million miles, Michel Kuipers. I can sort of understand why so many like him as an Brighton player, good shot stopper, but as good as his shot stopping was, the rest of his all round game was awful.

having just read the whole thread it looks like NSC is voting for Keeley, followed by Moseley - they would be my two picks as it happens with the latter pipping the former IMHO.

Phil Parkes

Amazed someone else remembers Phil Parkes display for Walsall against us at Craven Cottage all those years ago. I was only 9 at the time, but his performance is such a strong memory.

My other memory of that night was a young lad being knocked down by a car just outside the ground. My dad shielded me from seeing the boy on the ground, but I do remember seeing a dark pool of blood on the road, which skocked me. I never did find out if the lad recovered. Nope, didn't see the incident.
Apart from PP's performance, my only other memories from the evening are Howard Wilkinson's bowed legs, Barry Lloyd and Steve(?) Earle having decent games for Fulham and one of my schoolmates from Hove CGS being ejected twice by the same copper for swearing whilst singing the same song. He got a 1st about 5 years later.

Grummitt the best I've seen for sure. He had been an England U21 keeper way back, so always top class in that era.

The save referred to by others was against Ipswich in the League Cup game September '76. Brian Talbot's volley from 10 yards struck beautifully...you could barely see the ball... and miraculously it was pushed aside one-handed. Just brilliant.

As said earlier there aren't many classic athletic keepers similar to Peter Grummitt now - they are nearly all 6' 3" plus and aim to block for the most part. Lighter balls with unpredictable trajectories have changed things too.

So it's comparing apples and oranges really.

Grummittt was one of those modest sportsmen types as well.

Graham Moseley -made a great save described as the same as Banks's against Pele but cant remember who against ....then 2 weeks later let one go through his legs ! But always said something to us behind the north goal even told us to get lost when we tried to nab his shirt at the end of the season ....so we took the corner flag instead LOL

The Ipswich game was just months before I started going. But a work colleague mentioned it to me recently, and said Banks in Mexico was the only better save he'd ever seen.

Through Google, I recently found another mention of it in NSC years ago!

Yes he did in a testimonial when he was at Watford prior to going to Liverpool. Cant remember who the testimonial was for but remember him playing.
