Hit 1980s crime drama Bergerac is coming back.

British broadcaster UKTV will reimagine the series for its channel, Drama, and filming will begin this summer, with locations including the Channel Island of Jersey. Casting will be announced in the coming months, the network says.

Bergerac will be based on the original series created by Robert Banks Stewart, which starred John Nettles and ran for nine series on the BBC between 1981 and 1991. The modern re-imagining will honour the iconic detective drama, but with a contemporary twist, as Bergerac thrown into a knotty, high-stakes police investigation and challenged to his very core. He will be forced to confront his demons, while trying to save his family and career.

Unlike the original hit from the 80s, the new series will see one character-led murder mystery run across all six episodes, in place of a new storyline each episode.

Toby Whithouse – the man tasked with bringing the series back to life – said: “It’s a rare honour to bring back a show as beloved and iconic as Bergerac. Our mission was always to respect the show’s history and legacy while making it impactful and relevant for a modern-day audience. We’ll be bringing back other beloved supporting characters, as well as introducing new friends and foes. Just like his predecessor, our Bergerac is complex, driven, brilliant and flawed.”

In 2008 I was an extra in the Midsomer Murders, and can honestly say he was the most miserable sod you could meet.
I asked one of the cast , who was a good friend of mine, and he said that he doesn't want to talk to anybody and walks around mumbling his lines.

Brought up very poor with a strong Cornwall accent and against all odds (and a newly learnt received pronunciation accent) becomes a well established actor.

Then moans about the fact he can't get voiceover work because all they want is regional accents.



He is a wonderful luvvie and a bit of a national treasure.

His 1980s book is amazing, I wish I had it to hand. There is a wonderful passage about fans turning up to the set when filming, who he appreciated doing so but then has a moan about them not adhering the local parking regulations.

He's pure Partridge if Partridge was an actor.

I was Midland and yes that was my life too. When I 1st moved it was 65p a pint at The Pierson or The Exeter
