Berbatov?????

Dandyman

In London village.
" Glenn Murray, the man dubbed ‘the lower league Berbatov’, continues to be linked with a move away from Sussex. Cardiff City, after missing out on Michael Chopra, are one of the many names to resurface time and time again but Brighton chairman Dick Knight insists Murray is not for sale. He'll be off in the next couple of weeks then...

Perhaps the best rumour of the last month has nothing to do with the playing side of things. With Micky Adams under mounting pressure to turn things round, fans have been playing chinese whispers over who a likely replacement would be.

The normal names have come up: Aidy Boothroyd, Iain Dowie, Ian Holloway etc. Add to that list, apparently, the names of Frank Leboeuf and Lazio-legend Paolo Di Canio. Forza Brighton!"

"By all accounts Brighton were preparing a £400,000 bid for Johnson "

And at that, I lost interest in the validity of this piece.

'the lower league Berbatov' who the f*** has ever called him that?

I took a Spurs supporting mate to watch us against Milwall and told him he might get to see "League One's Berbatov". Murray was different class that day, so it didn't seem that absurd a comparison at the time. There is obviously a huge gulf in class between the two, but there are clear similarities in playing style and attributes. Both have a languid playing style and appear lazy, both have superb first touches and link play, and both have a good goalscoring record. I would say both are under-appreciated by the fans but unfortunately that only applies to Murray.

I'm not denying there are similarities and Murray can be a quality player, not up there with the best in our league but still very good. However, The 'League One's Berbatov' is a bit rich and a slightly odd phrase to come out with, allbeit less so in the case you mention.
