If that is the strategy, then we need to sign 18 excellent players at once, and hope we go up that season, because if not they will all be off.

Leicester offered £9m for Troy Deeney last summer and Watford said no....
That was after we said yes to £8m for Ulloa.
That's why Watford are in the Premier League and we nearly made League 1.

So it's not if a player wants to leave it's whether the club wants the player to leave (length of contract left does play a part}....

How do you know Ulloa did, and Deeney didn't. Sorry, I'm not really seeing your point here. Players always want to leave when someone higher offers a contract - if they don't go they generally carry on. Calderon is a good example.

That's not specifically true. If it were, then it would mean we would sell for the best price, even if that price was just £1m. That's not what we'll do, we'll only sell when the figure becomes too high to turn down, as it was with Ulloa.

No one (virtually) thought we should be holding on to Ulloa for the amount we were offered. Buckley is an excellent player but was injury prone, and I think the price for Bridcutt was good enough. Of course we'll sell if the price is good enough and the same is true of Kayal, but he's our best player and that price would have to be very high.

If the bid is over a couple of million I reckon we'd encourage the player out of the door, not quite the same as not standing in the way. Probably the only way to stay within FFP with our small crowds and insignificant commercial income. It's tough being one of the tiny clubs in this league.

We are not so good at saying no to other teams. Take a look at Watford today. Whilst we were offloading Ulloa last summer, they refused all offers for Troy Deeney. You will never get anywhere if you keep selling the family silver and replacing it with crap or nothing at all.
