Bendy buses coming to Brighton From The Argus)

Doesn't look like it's been decided yet but looks like the bendy bus might be coming to Brighton on the route going to Falmer.

its a good idea, much quciker to board and alight for 60-80 footie fans at a time. much of the problem with bendy bus was the percieved "free" trip, with people going to Falmer on match day, presumably with travel vouchers this wont be an issue.

His removal of the Bendy's in London is insanity, seeing a route that was previously served by a bus that could hold near on 100 down to 30, well, says it all really.

But he does like putting up Tube fares by 12% despite inflation being 1%, and having promised "More bang for your buck" when he got elected.

His removal of the Bendy's in London is insanity, seeing a route that was previously served by a bus that could hold near on 100 down to 30, well, says it all really.

Plus the fact that if he cancells the western congestion zone, he will have a £700 milion hole is his transportation strategy budget.

The bendy buses actually had a better safety than other buses on the same routes, there were actually less accidents with cyclists and of course were fantastic for families with children, and people with disabilities etc

Do people think the re-introduction of a tram network would be a good idea in Brighton? Surely it would be of massive benefit to the university and would help to ease the traffic problems and ofcourse be great for access to the stadium.

The bendy buses can offer a similar service, trams are so cool, but require major investment, changing of the road network, not great for cyclists and the ol dears.

That explains it! I was walking back to my car (which I parked in the pond Brighton kindly concreted over) from uni yesterday and saw one attempting to get round the bus turn point at Brighton Uni (Falmer)

Caused chaos for the actual 25 double decker that got stuck along side it!

bendy bus are unpopular with TFL because they know they are losing a load of revenue on the routes that have them. I dont think most passengers care what type of bus they get on, and the saftey issue is probably no different to lorries.

I can't wait for the fun that putting off any upgrade of Victoria Underground Station until 2018 will bring, or the fun of getting a 512 which held 90 people and now only holds 30.

But it's ok, because he's SAVED the money he cut there to provide us with air conditioned tubes...

Which have been on order for years anyway.

The maximum capacity on a bendy is 149 (120 passengers if some of them are obese). If B&H buses wanted to bring in a dozen bendies they would get a bargain as Boris wants rid of them and some of them are only 4 years old. They are popular in London as they provide free travel to millions of passengers every year (those who dont have an oystercard)

The concession bid winner to design, finance, build and operate under a 99-year lease was Tramtrack Croydon Limited (TCL). The consortium comprised CentreWest Limited (part of First Group), Sir Robert McAlpine Limited, Amey Construction, Royal Bank of Scotland and Bombardier Transportation. Of the £200m project cost, TCL contributed £75m, with central government covering the remainder in view of the general significance for London.

In 2000, Transport for London (TfL) was created as the integrated body responsible for the London's transport system, thereby inheriting responsibility for the TCL Private Finance Initiative contract. In 2006/07, TfL paid £4m to TCL in compensation for changes of fare arrangements, an amount expected to increase through the contract's life.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Construction began in January 1997, the 28km system becoming operational in May 2000 with 38 stops. After a protracted funding dispute, a stop to serve a large shopping and entertainment centre of the same name, Centrale, opened in December 2005. Couldn't they be serviced at the Lewes Rd depot , if some of the regular buses were reallocated to Conway St and Whitehawk Rd ?
