That's not true, it was widely reported that he wanted to join us and even had the terms in place but we couldn't agree a fee with Groningen. He then signed for Celtic in the following window.

We agreed terms with a player we hadn’t had a bid accepted for ? How does that work

I suppose it’s comforting to you that you can now keep hold of talent like Phillips.

‘The Sun now report that the West Yorkshire club are ready to take a firmer stance than the one that saw Lewis Cook, Charlie Taylor and Sam Byram depart.’

However, you lost a much better Cook than we gave to Bournemouth.

We’ll have £100m rated pair Dunk & White at the back and you’ll probably have Cooper and some unproven Koch. We’re looking at 6 points aren’t we?

Hang on - don't jump the gun .... they've got the best coach not just in the current world but that the world has ever known and goals a zillion up front in the form of Patricia Bamford ... we don't stand a chance.

I may have been wrong with that, this can happen though occasionally if there is contact with the agent, you can at least decifer whether you're on the same page. Bit naughty (tapping up?) but it definitely happens.

Regardless he was definitely interested in coming to us. Here's an article from around the time we were in for him: https://www.fcgonline.nl/index.php/2014-10-27-12-26-44/eerste-elftal/2005-van-dijk-brighton-bod

Are any Leeds fans getting twitchy about their lack of signings yet ?

I mean they are hurtling to towards the event horizon and time is ticking away.

Think it’s rapidly heading towards car crash territory for Leeds. Not that they realise.
Wish they had one of those Netflix series. Would pay good money to watch that.

Because we DID have a bid accepted, in January, but his club were in a relegation battle, and decided he couldn’t leave until the summer.

Then come the end of the season, Celtic made their bid, half a million more than ours, and their chairman told TB the player was still ours, but the price had gone up. Bloom told him to **** off. They’d shaken on a deal, and he wasn’t being ****ed about, on principle.

Well according to the papers the much lauded German Ben White upgrade likely to cost upwards of £20m with Spurs sniffing about.

That will be Leeds putting in an £11m offer then which will be rejected followed by thousands of tweets about how tinpot the Bundesliga is.

Oh dear...

Go on Spurs!

Koch is London through and through. £20m should be enough to do the deal. It’s a win win for everyone.

The latest from Leeds Journalist Phil Hay.

"It’s very difficult to speak for Ben White, but from what I understand, he is keen on a move to Leeds and he does appreciate the amount of progress and the way he’s developed under Bielsa and in that season in the Championship.

“I think there’s also a feeling deep down that he has been given a chance at Leeds that wasn’t there at Brighton – and wasn’t necessarily going to be there at Brighton until he played as he did, and Brighton, in their defence, might say, ‘well, that is the proof or the evidence we needed to see that there was a definite Premier League player in there.

But they haven’t been able to extend his contract so far, they haven’t been able to raise his salary, the numbers and the figures that have been put to him have been accepted, and he does have a contract to 2022, but I think in order for there to be a feeling of commitment down there – and this isn’t to say that Brighton would feel forced into selling him – but in order for them to feel like the commitment was there, you would think that he would have to take up a new deal, and Leeds know that if he does that and he signs a new contract down there, then that transfer is absolutely dead in the water.”

As hans kraay fan club says in the VVD case we did have a bid accepted. However you can have permission from a club to speak to a player about a move before a fee is agreed. See the Jadon Sancho talks with Manchester United earlier this summer. Man Utd had permission to approach from Dortmund and the player agrees a deal but the transfer doesn't go through as the two clubs couldn't agree a transfer fee.

Phil Hay is now a mind reader and I thought journalists were supposed to report FACTS..

Thanks - I’d forgotten exactly how it planned out but do remember when Celtic were involved that was game over

Yes I think this part of the problem. We’re all having fun with the way they’re carrying on, but all their local press has this angle. This is guy is a prime offender. Has anything he’s said on this saga been true? According to Phil Kay this deal was going to happen...

One suspects, and I don’t wish to be unkind, but he is enjoying this attention from the Leeds fans, with tweets, questions, podcast appearances and no doubt articles like this are fantastic click bait for him, and that’s his job. What else can he talk about frankly?

The story should be dead now. It’ll be interesting how they’ll spin things when Ben does sign a new deal. Because that IS going to happen.

Here’s my guess, Phil.. feel free to use this copy as I know you’ll need an angle. I can see something like..

Ahem...

BEN WHITE DEAL ON HOLD UNTIL END OF SEASON?
An NSC exclusive by Vagabond

“The ongoing BW transfer saga continues into the season as he was implored to sign a new deal by the club this week following crunch talks.

There were concerns in his camp he’d be in limbo if he didn’t sign and it was important for White not to jeopardise his relationship with the owner, Tony Bloom and with his manager GP as it’s still important for his career development he gets game time.

He’s still very much in touch with his friends in Leeds and looks out for their results week to week.

He continues to be a huge admirer of Bielsa and is grateful for his time in their promotion campaign.

We understand his girlfriend still has a lot of family roots up in Leeds and they’re all holding out hope Bielsa’s team stay up and a fresh bid is made end of the season.

Leeds officials have no comment at this time as they continue to monitor the situation”.

Am I warm? I should get a job writing for their local press. I’m not saying they’re gullible, of course.

To state the obvious - leeds were a division below so it was much easier to ‘give him a chance’. In fact that was exactly the purpose of the loan that Brighton arranged.

" i haven't spoken to Ben, so make a lot of assumptions and inference based on my own hopes..."

if he is so pivotal to his development, i think something Ben would be looking for is assurance Bielsa would even be at Leeds.

That last paragraph is fantastically rambling and contradicts itself. We haven't been able to extend his contract or raise his salary but the figures put to him have been accepted. Well it can't be both can it. The commitment is already there, he signed a new deal before he went to Leeds and we've got at least 2 years (possibly 3 if reports are correct) left on that deal at the moment. Ben knows the club are not interested in selling him, and he's been around the club long enough to know that Tony Bloom doesn't change his mind, so he can either stay on the deal he currently has or take the new one which is likely to triple or quadruple his wages.

It's also entirely possible that Ben is quite happy to stay with us and force his way into our Premier League team, but at the same time be open to a move to Leeds if we were to accept a bid from them. The two positions do not have to be mutually exclusive.
