It really is simple. Ben White is under contract until June 2023 if we want to invoke the extra year. That means we own the player and it is up to us what happens.

I imagine what will happen is he will report back to training next year, have a good chat with Dan Ashworth & Graham Potter who will tell him he is going to be a first team player, has a great opportunity to step up like Lewis Dunk did and Adam Webster has. Likely a couple of defenders will move on as part of this.

In the background the club will negotiate with his agent for a new contract and really the choice is - don't take it and Ben White stays on the wage he is on, or he gets a proper first team deal.

I absolutely refuse to believe that Ben White at his young age is going to down tools and go on strike because of 1 good season in the Championship especially if we have offered him a 'first team' deal. We may see a transfer request from his agent but the reality is Tony Bloom is 2 from 2 with previous transfer requests - and both of those players are still key players within our first team squad all these years alter. He's been around the first team enough over the last few years to know Lewis Dunk etc who I am sure will also be talking with him.

The somewhat boring reality of the situation.

Is this the shittest and most boring transfer SAGA we've ever been involved in? I'm struggling to think of one shitter or more boring.

Bridcutt to Sunderland was just as shit, but it didn't go on as long, and as Gus was involved it was never BORING.

This though. ****ing hell. Any other contenders?

It's just a load of internet goons from Leeds stirring things up. Behind the scenes I would expect things to be a lot calmer. Close season as well, there is little else for fans of clubs to talk about.

No, this is comfortably top. Both sets of fans have also gone a bit wierd and desperate.

That's an understatement! Both sets of fans are behaving like rabid hyenas and should be consigned to the looney bin asap.

Your generalisations have included both of you if you are both fans. Not everyone is as upset about this as you make out.

Be interesting to see if White will be vocal on this. We hold the aces at the moment but that would change a bit if he speaks out and reveals he wants to go.

Tricky one for him also if Chelsea also sniffing. He will play it with a straight bat for now I expect. He's in demand.

It seems we are to get at least 22m if he goes which is also re assuring.

40m could enable us to move into a different level of striker which could change alot for us. Or we could be smart and add elsewhere.

Part of me doesn't want the money though. Would like to see him in our team , have an amazing season , get capped and then he goes for astronomical money.

My gut feeling is he will be off and if I was a betting man I reckon Leeds will get him

After all this, you STILL think he will be sold to Leeds?
Have you not been paying attention? Go and sit in the corner and think about what you’ve said!

Our recent signing of Veltman was pretty shit. We didn't even get time for a thread, the club just announced his signing to a chorus of huh's and wtf's?!

On the other hand the Vicente and Ali J one's were magnificent.
None of those were SAGAs though were they GNLF.

Of course. For clarity, I should have said “both sets of fans who are getting sucked into this ludicrous fiasco are behaving like rabid hyenas and should be consigned to the looney bin ASAP”. Better?

This is quite the saga

We have a player who we like and if someone offers an amount of money which we deem to be worth more to us that than the player, we will let him leave.

I've never known a saga like it, other than every other transfer ever.

I am gripped.

If he hands in a transfer request because he wants to go to Leeds then I will still be absolutely amazed if he went there. We are bored, it is the off season, it is summer etc etc. This feels like the massive story at the moment and that it will be here to stay. If he puts in a request and gets turned down and decides to down tools then it might seem huge at the time, but that would be that day or that week or that month. Fast forward to February. It is cold and wet and he is still with the reserves. Imagine if we are doing well in the league and Leeds are struggling, will he still be demanding a move or will he apologise and sort himself out? He has two years on a contract and that is a very long time. 8 months ago none of us had heard of coronavirus and two years is three times longer than that. Does anyone really think he will he happy spending two winters waiting for his move?

I doubt very much he will down tools, I am merely showing that I suspect that is how Bloom would see it re story for now that would soon go away.

If we receive a massive offer from a top 6 side then I expect he will go but I genuinely can’t see him going to Leeds unless they make a ludicrous offer which would be funny too.

We won't sell him to Leeds. We won't let them bully us into this. Tony's history of dealing with similar cases tells me this.

Must admit, I think White will hand in a transfer request. Having his GF Dad in his ear, Agent promising riches it would be difficult for any youngster to not have his head turned. I presume players start pre-season soon, so it will be good that he is back on south coast.

But, if he does hand in a transfer request, then Bloom will be doing him a massive favour early in his career that contracts are what they are. Protects the player, but protects the parent club. He will have to understand that Leeds or whoever will need to match Brightons valuation. If not, he knuckles down and fights for a place like Stephens and Dunk before - (I think he will know all this already).

Forget all the nonsense from Leeds fans - who have really made themselves look tin pot over this - could you see Man U fans doing the same over Sancho, or Liverpool

I'd put the %'s of where Ben White will be next season at this right now:

Liverpool 5%
Chelsea 40%
Other 5%
Brighton 50%
Leeds 0%

We either sell for big bucks or he stays. It's that simple. No chance of him going to Leeds.
