What’s it called? Cumbernauld
Another factor in this whole 'big club' thing is who is running the club.

Just look at Newcastle, or Everton, or West Ham. All bigger clubs but have won eff all in the last 25 years between them, a big factor being idiots in the boardroom. And in that time your Wigans, Swansea, Boro, Leicester have won trophies.

Dunno how Newcastle have the cheek to call themselves a big club they’ve not won anything since the 50s it wasn’t that long ago that they were only getting 10k fans too gawd knows when the last time West Ham won anything either? I’d still class Everton as big but they’ve missed the gravy boat tbh

This turning down 2 contract offers thing,
Where did this rumour come from?
We wouldn’t leak it, it’s not in our interest, we don’t leak stuff, 3 staff members were sacked last year for leaking transfer info on social media.
Leeds wouldn’t know about it, and, it wouldn’t be in their interest to piss off the club, if they did.
The player and his agent can’t afford to upset the club either, we hold all the cards, if young Ben wants to leave, he has to work with the club who holds his present 3 year contract, rock the boat too much , he plays for the stiffs for 3 years, at the end of which, football will have forgotten Ben White.

Almost certainly from White's agent, I would have thought. To be fair, we've seen this movie before.

When White was on loan at Newport County in February 2018 (and with his existing contract due to expire in about 16 months) there was a report in the Sun that White had rejected a new deal at Albion, with Liverpool and Tottenham keeping tabs on the defender. The very next day the Argus reported that Albion were in discussions with him over a new contract (which was eventually registered with the FA in April 2018).

Will the movie have a similar ending this time?

Erm..............I know Millwall and Leeds are at the top of alot of peoples' lists of most objectionable fans. but Liverpool fans in my experience coming a close run third.
Really? Compare the tweets and other messages posted when Liverpool let Lallana come on a free transfer to Brighton with the squeals of indignation form Leeds that Brighton could possibly demand their own player back after loaning him to help them get promoted - 'he's our player now', 'little Brighton can't be serious that he'll go back to them - we are Leeds after all' and all that flummery and tomfoolery and shitehousery.

One lot is clearly a big club, with class. The other lot is Leeds United.

Well in TB we trust. He will have an idea what BW wants and also what fee would allow him to go. Both figures are only relative to TB's wishes considering he is under contract for 3 more years. TB will not be held to ransom by a player, his agent or another club. We are not run by amateurs, such as Arsenal( allowing players to run down their contracts)

I innocently tweeted today about the risks of teams that go up and have to replace loan players before they can start to add to their squad strength (eg Huddersfield). I noted that paying 20 or 30m for Ben White would put a dent in their player budget and get them effectively no further forward - in terms of squad strength.

They don't get it. I've been bombarded with abuse. They think I'm drunk/thick/bitter. Have I got this very wrong?

Yes you have - Ben White would have done their squad strength a power of good!

I love this thread. Full of thoughts and views based on nothing, apart from AZ Gull obvs. The only thing we know is that Potter is looking forward to working with him and White has two years plus a one year option on his contract with Albion. We know Leeds want to sign him. Beyond that, nothing. Albion are tight as a ducks bottom when it comes to releasing information and we have no idea how the scales balance between generating funds and producing first team players. Beyond all that, this and the 'deluded Leeds' thread are essential daily reading. Love it!

To be fair to Newcastle, they do have a very large number of male fans attending their matches topless. Probably more than any club in the world.

I don't know how you score a big club but this puts them right up there for me.

OPINION: Selling Ben White (at any price) would show a LACK OF AMBITION

tldr; selling Ben White is the wrong move IMO. Even for £30m. What are we going to spend it on? A Locadia? Andone? Jahanbakhsh? Highly talented AMBITIOUS young english players are hard to come by (and attract to Brighton). Even if you spend a large amount of money, at our level, it only guarantees a player who likes money, not AMBITION. Plus, why give a rival like Leeds any type of advantage? Let’s keep him and keep building. Keep the gems, sell the rest.
(EDIT: to add, with all the money in the world we still can't attract top players until we can offer them something more in return, like a shot at Europe)

I have to get this out of my system. It’s cathartic I guess!

SITUATION:

According to Sky Sports Brighton have rejected two bids from Leeds of £18.5m and £22m.

White has rejected renewed contract offers from Brighton.

We have him on a two year contract with an option to extend (so basically a three year contract).

BEN WHITE:

Ben White has been developed through our youth academy since 2014. He has had loans at Newport (Division 2), Peterborough (Division 1), Leeds (Championship).

He has been lauded as the next Rio Ferdinand and played every single minute of Leeds Championship title winning campaign.

He oozes confidence, is composed, has a commanding presence, is a great passer of the ball.

He’s Potter’s perfect player tbh.

THE MEDIA, SOCIAL MEDIA:

Honestly it’s all clickbait and opinions.

Also the media is being used as usual as part of whatever negotiations are happening (hopefully on White’s new contract).

WHAT’S ACTUALLY BEEN SAID:

POTTER wants to keep him and has him playing in the first team next season.

SOURCE: https://www.skysports.com/football/...-expects-ben-white-to-develop-into-top-player

THE CLUB is likely negotiating a new contract but also stated that the one he signed before he went to Leeds is pretty good (can’t find the source but it seems like regular negotiation tactics).

WHITE has thanked Leeds on instagram.

SOURCE: https://www.instagram.com/p/CDL4p29lfp1/

LEEDS have said a LOT and insisted there are more negotiations to come as if the deal is on.

MY OPINION (FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH)

Our development with White has been first class.

He definitely experienced something special at Leeds, can’t deny that. Mutually beneficial I would say.

Comparisons to a young Rio Ferdinand. I think a player of his age, talent and experience in English football is irreplaceable at the moment.

Do we want to climb the premier league table or not? Do we have that ambition of not?

I think selling him, especially to a rival team (likely to be battling for a similar spot in the league) is a sign of lack of ambition.

We basically have a three year contract with him. So let’s keep him for another year. If he wants to go with two years left on his contract then we can think about it.

I’m hoping he really isn’t up for sale and the Leeds boardroom are trying to save face in front of their demanding fans. White also is unlikely to want to make enemies of the fans. He’s not going to flaunt any new deal with Brighton in this atmosphere.

Next year should be a BIG one for our talented young players. They’ve had some time to settle in. I really excited at the prospect of White linking up with Bissouma, Alzate, Lamptey, Connolly, Maupay, Mac Allister, Trossard as well as veterans Lallana, Dunk, etc.

Keep the gems and sell the dross. There are plenty of players we could sell before White.

WHY DID I WRITE THIS?

I dunno. Maybe the Brighton social media team is reading, maybe Ben White is reading, maybe this will reach someone? Maybe it’s cathartic? Obviously I have no power over the situation. It’s frustrating being a Brighton fan sometimes and always being looked down on as a meaningless club. I think we have ambition and maybe this is a “defining moment” that I think is important for the future of the club.

Cavani move back on to Benfica. Poor Leeds. Got probably the worst squad ever to get promoted and not close to signing anyone.
