What a ridiculous thread and a classic example of why we never win anything in this country. If Ainslie has to push the American out to improve his chances of winning then of course he should.

what a ridiculous post, a classic example of Daily Mail type reporting. ' why we never win anything in this country'. Don't you follow any sports news. Rowing, how many golds have we won at the last few Olympics. Sailing, again, how many golds have we won at the last few Olympics. Cycling, think we won 9 out of 18 golds at the World Championships in Manchester and we are winning a bagful of golds at Beijing.

Sorry, but if you check the facts, you will see that we do win things in this country.

Oh for gods sake. The point I am making is that you would not find an Australian complaining about one of their gold medal chances blocking off someone. I don't know about Daily Mail type reporting as I would never read it, although you obviously do.

forcing a pleading American out of the final Finn race into last place to guarantee that Ainslie got the gold. Ainslie had to finish withing 4 places of the American to guarantee gold regardless of the finishing place in the race itself. The American stood to drop from Silver medal to no medal though depending on how others finished. The hard hearted Brit was having none of the Yanks pleading in his pursuit of gold. Guess that's what it takes to be a 3 time gold medal winner though. Hardly sporting imo although within the rules.

Anyway, the race was abandoned just over halfway through due to no wind, gonna be really interesting to see the tactics in the re-run race.

I actually felt quite sorry for the American

What a load of old bollocks. Nice guys finish last, and for once we have a Brit who is absolutely head and shoulders above the rest of the World, and he does it by ruthlessly eliminating the opposition. That's what being the best is all about.

If you want a nation of sports "stars" who resemble "C'mon Tim" Henman, then good luck to you but I'll be rejoicing at Ainslie's brilliance.

Sorry but you weren't making a point you used a broad statement implying a fact that we don't win anything which is patently untrue. You don't have to read the Daily Mail to have an idea of what it is all about and their style. And no, I don't read the Daily Mail or any other rag. And let's get this thread into perspective as I think there is only one person really complaining about Ainslie's accepted tactics which, had the race continued would no doubt have got him the Gold yesterday

Bollocks back at you, he won it today by being the best which is what he should have had the balls to try and do yesterday. Unlike Henman he is the best so he should just go out and prove it, not f*** around being last and second to last which he did yesterday. He proved today he is capable of winning in style so you can shove your safety first losers mentality.

True, and having done competitive sailing I stand by that view.
