Ben Ainslie - absolute bastard

He'll no doubt be out for revenge and change his tactics for the re-run, it could all blow up in Ainslee's face which would kind of be poetic justice,

Well as the first post says he only needs to be within 4 places of the yank, will it really make a difference if the roles are reversed?

Having seen Ainslee's tactics in the 1st race I'd suggest he is worried enough not to be as confident as you seem to be and doesn't really want to race him. If the American can avoid getting railroaded by Ainslee at the start it is quite possible that he will end up 4 places in front of him. The guy is obviously a big threat as he is currently in 2nd place. The American now knows Ainslee's tactics and can work on staying away from him at the start. Gonna be a really really tense restart as they jockey for position.

only in this country can someone be knocked for doing all they can to win.

If I had spent 4 years training to win gold and got into the position ben is I would do anything to make sure I got the gold and believe me the yank will do the same if he gets the chance Ben Ainsley is a true Brit and should be cheered on to the GOLD

If your not first your last, too many times we have heard of brits beating there personal best and how they should be proud.
Same scenario Brighton go away and play a game plan to get the ultimate goal i.e a win. To get this they play a spoiling tactic to stop the other team from playing there natural game, we sneak a 1 nil win, do we complain?
Sport at the top level should be primarily about winning at any cost within the laws.

Doing all he can would be racing the guy imo, not using tactics to stop the other guy. If that's knocking they yeah I'm knocking although I totally understand what he's doing and why. Just not in the Olympic spirit imo but it's obvious I'm on my own with those thoughts on this thread.

I am not knocking the fact that he wants to win though, just the way he tried to do it, by denying the Yank his chance of a medal at all.

Can't believe the negative comments here. Ainslie is doing what every other experienced yachtsman would do in the same scenario. Build yourself a lead during the preliminary races and in the medal race protect it. The analagies with Schumacher is crap as he broke the rules against Hill and tried again against Villeneuve.

Another gold would suit us.

The same happened to Ben when Scheidt (real name) the Brazilian boxed him in - Atlanta 96 possibly.
That's just top quality sport. Hard cheese Mr Railey. Anyway go and borrow one of Mr Phelps' medals...

forcing a pleading American out of the final Finn race into last place to guarantee that Ainslie got the gold. Ainslie had to finish withing 4 places of the American to guarantee gold regardless of the finishing place in the race itself. The American stood to drop from Silver medal to no medal though depending on how others finished. The hard hearted Brit was having none of the Yanks pleading in his pursuit of gold. Guess that's what it takes to be a 3 time gold medal winner though. Hardly sporting imo although within the rules.

Anyway, the race was abandoned just over halfway through due to no wind, gonna be really interesting to see the tactics in the re-run race.

I actually felt quite sorry for the American

What a ridiculous thread and a classic example of why we never win anything in this country. If Ainslie has to push the American out to improve his chances of winning then of course he should.

Thanks for that.

Re run about to start in the pissing rain, hope the American can avoid Ainslee at the start this time and we see a race not a tactical lock out.
