Is he only in the side now for his free kicks corners and crossing ability?

Watching it last night my other half after about 70 mins asks me "Is Beckham playing?"

Where is the Beckham from 2001 against Greece? In his last world cup you'd have thought he'd really want it and show passion and determination.

I don't think anyone is free from criticism from our three performances. The only reason we know Lampard is on the field is because he has balsted so many balls wide. He is a useful player and obviously his set pieces are his most potent weapon, along with cross field passes.

I'm far from his biggest fan, but I can't help but wonder if Beckham is actually OK? He looks ill, his cheekbones protrude and he looks all gangly and like he's just spent a good few months on a hospital ward seriously ill.

To be fair, in our first two games Beckham has been one of our better players, and we've scored goals from his crosses recently. Therefore, I can't help but feel that Edman (who is an attacking full back) was given a job to mark Beckham out of the game and force him inside, instead of making crosses, which he seemed to do quite well.

He missed linking up with Gary Neville..........He did little wrong though. Sweden first goal may have been better defended but it was a good goal and could you see say Lennon defending any better than Beckham? Unfairly critisised IMO and will justify his place against Ecuador. ( I think, I hope)

He not only there for dead-ball kicks.

He is also there to guard the near post at corners.

Great analysis on BBC by Shearer about what you have to do in that position. Literally school-boy stuff.

That game against Greece is always brought up as an example of Beckham's wondrous skills.
I honestly feel it's a myth that has arisen because of that marvellous last-minute goal.
I really felt that Greece were the better side in that match. Remember, they were leading twice. England were awarded a ridiculous amount of free-kicks on the edge of the box. I watched the game in Germany where they showed every 'foul' in close-up and, believe me, very few of them were actual fouls. If it had been Italy or someone getting all those 'fouls', we'd have been talking about dodgy refs and bribes and everything. Beckham scored that goal on about attempt number 25.

Maybe victoria has got him on her diet plan.

Cant have helped him having Carragher behind him, no support or link up like he gets with G.Nev there.

He has set up two of the goals so far in this tournament, cant see what he has done wrong.

Whatever anyones opinion of Gary Neville it has to be said that right side works a lot better with him than with out him.

Unfortunately he's a bit of an Owen with the injuries.

My memories of the game are limited due to beer but I seem to remember that he was all over the pitch that day. I think it was one of his best performances in an England shirt even forgetting about the goal.

Agreed it was Beckham v Greece that day - was a bit worse for wear as well in the Littern tree in Worthing but Beckham was magnificent.

My thoughts exactly GG, Becks was totally insignificant last night, looked very ordinary

If they bring the World Cup home then i will.

You know what, you sound like one of those people that read the tabloids. get ridiculously hyped up about Englands chances, and then are disappointed when they dont play total football and go out in the quarters.

i still think hes a starter and deserves to be at present.

He just needs to get further up the pitch, hes far to deep.
His crossing from 40 yards out isnt anywhere near as dangerous from there.
